JFK-HEL-OSL Finnair Question

Hello,

I will soon be travelling JFK-HEL-OSL on Finnair. I am a Canadian citizen.
How do transfers work in HEL with regards to immigration/customs/luggage?
Is HEL the point of entry then nothing to do in OSL? What about luggage
in HEL, do I need to pick them up then re-check them for the OSL leg?

As you enter schengen at HEL, that is where you will go through passport control.

Customs will be done at OSL, so baggage will go all the way there (assuming same ticket or same carrier, etc.)
