I'm just noticing a trend (at least to me...could be normal...) that when you try to book a flight online and can pick seats on some of the itinerary and not others, it might mean something. It has seemed to me that these flights are possibly overbooked and there are no seats to pick.
Is this normal or just a glitch of some kind? If I call on some, they will give me something. On the two occasions I did, they couldn't give me one on the phone, but no problem getting one at the check-in counter.
On another occasion, I couldn't change a Business class seat online (since there were no others available), but calling Res they gave me another a row behind.

Once I booked a United flight AMS-IAD and even two months before there were only a few middle seats here and there available but luckily there was more choice when checking in the old way.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

Happened to me 2 months ago while flying DL (Connection) DTW-ITH in "T" class, which is a low fare class (although the ticket was not especially cheap). The equipment was a 50-seat CRJ-200 and I couldn't get a seat when I booked the ticket 6 weeks ahead. I called DL twice to no avail, but when I checked in online the day before, I was given 2C.
At the gate in DTW, the flight was in fact booked to 51/50 and DL was calling for a volunteer, but 3 passengers didn't show up and we left with 2 seats empty.
Has typically happened on US & CO more than anyone...

That makes sense...hadn't really thought of that one
