MAD has 2 terminal complexes (each with different concourses) located on different sides of the field.

While on transit from T4S to T4, you'll have to clear security at T4 before heading to the boarding area. if you're bringing the booze from the US with you, it will be taken away by security staff at that point.
The best recommendation is to try to buy it at the duty free shops located at T4 before boarding the ALC flight.

Muchas gracias. Your directs worked perfectly. We were 25 minutes early into T4S, buzzed right through immigration, took the train to T4, straight into the duty free shop and no problem purchasing what I needed. Up the the Sala VIP, some good sleep in their 'bedded' quiet room... loved that... quick shower and it was off to Alicante.
Too lazy to do a trip report but everything everyone says about IB is true. The J class A340-600 cabin is like a very spacious living but the seats need just that little bit more to live up to the space they afford. Food was so so, service was quite good, a nice crew with a full cabin. I couldn't sleep in the fully reclined position because of the bump[s, i liked the massage feature and enjoyed the seats for watchng movies. Also, no privacy at all fronm your neighbor... I had to smell is dranbuie the whole way across - yuch. Though he was a very nice guy.
I so love Barajas... I just wish IB would live up to the great airport the Spanish people have afford themn!
On the Costa Blanca now enjoying family time... thanks agaIN everyone for the tips - they worked!
ps. late 30 minutes into ALC and the new airport is lovely with terrible signage. i was first off and walked down the length of the airport before looking back and realizing i missed a glass door, unmarked, entranace to the arrivals hall... everyone was complaining about it. then finding the bags when you've been an international passenbger required asking, again no clear signage... the facility itself is truly lovely with all the spanish marble and spaciousness feel... and waiting 45 minutes for luggage feels a big let down to be honest, especiallyw he nyou have run from one carousel to another and they're not marked!
