I was wondering, if any body her ever charter a plane, more so a wide body? If so, how much does it cost to charter such a large jet? I know sport teams and the US military does it all the time.

Depends on the route and how long the aircraft will be sitting around for unused. We chartered a BA 747 to go BHX-MIA return and it was in the hundreds of thousands (£) IIRC.

Don't forget every day its sitting around waiting for the return flight its not earning money so the airline want to make that money back too.

Very much variable on factors like trip length, origin/destination, aircraft type etc... Even if you want a one way you may end up paying for a return if the aircraft has to fly back empty.

I chartered a Cargolux 744F PIK to SYD back in June and the price was well north of USD 500k.

Cheers from Brisbane,

Peter

Here's an article about Delta and their charter operation.

http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-...orts-stars-fly-20110106-19h6y.html

A line from the article said a widebody military charter to Afghanistan was $1.3 mil.
