Time To Kill At MAD Airport

Hi all,

Next Thursday I'll be trying to log the LA 343 between MAD and FRA. The flight leaves at 1515. I arrive the same day on HV out of RTM at 0950. If all goes well I have about 4 hours to spend at the airport.

Are there any good spotting locations? Anything interesting in or around the airport? All suggestions are welcome!

I'm trying to catch the LA A343 myself as well, coming March. I've had a 4 hour layover once as well, last year. Time flew by. Follow the transfer signs after arriving with HV, and you'll be able to spend some time exploring Terminals 1,2 and 3 airside. Then take either a landside or airside shuttle bus to T4, an architectural marvel, and the terminal the LA flight departs from. Lots of windows there, with some nice views of arriving and departing planes - depending on the runways usage.

Have fun!

I guess you have too less time to do a lot. You will arrive at Terminal 1/2/3 which is completely ugly. Indeed, if you are into exploring airports, then after your arrival just stay airside, stroll round a litte, watch a few Spanair, Air Europa and Ryanair planes... But again, this place is NOT nice. You would probably like to leave for Terminal 4 quite soon with the bus. You can do this landside if you wish, too.
Terminal 4 is much nicer. Keep in mind that the LAN flight is considered as a Non-Schengen flight, which means you will depart from the satellite, you will need to take the little subway and also pass passport control. This takes a little more time. And since T4 is great and you will be at the satellite, better spend the time there and watch a few longhaul planes, they have nice shops in T4, too, and in my opinion better food options than at T1/2/3.

I've been to T1/2 before and found it pretty bad as you said, guess I'll be going to T4 then!
