We have upcoming flights with SQ and I purposely chose a longer layover at SIN just to explore the world-renowned airport and maybe explore Singapore itself.
Here are my flight details
JFK-SIN via FRA, Arriving at SIN at 6:35am
connecting to
SIN-MNL, Departing at 12:10pm
So we have around 5 Hours in SIN, I did my research and it seems that there is a free city tour that departs at 9AM and lasts for 2 hours, which means we'll be back at the airport by 11AM. Is 1 Hour and 10 Minutes enough to go through security, immigration(?) then head to the gate? Or is it cutting it too close? JFK-FRA-SIN is a LONG flight, so should we just sleep at the airport and relax? Are there free showers for transit pax? What are the amenities in SIN like? Any recommendations, what to try, where to eat, what to buy, etc.
Also, after arriving in MNL, we're connecting to another flight which departs at 7:15pm to CGY.
On our return flight, we have a longer stopover:
MNL-SIN, Arriving at SIN at 5:40pm
connecting to
SIN-JFK via FRA, Departing at 11:55pm
There are no city tours since we'd be stopping over at night, so I guess we'll just walk around SIN and try to pass the time.
Also, for those a.netters who have traveled on SQ 25/26, what are the process of transferring at FRA? I know that you'll have to exit the aircraft and re-clear security(?) So do we keep our boarding passes, or will the agent at JFK give us two boarding passes, one for JFK-FRA and FRA-SIN?

Changi has many dozen things things to do.
================================
Go to the movies
Go for a swim
Hang out and play video games
Sleep at one of the transit hotels
Shop
Watch planes
Hang out at the outside garden.
Yes, you could easily head into town also, however considering its early in the morning things are going to be quiet and things like many of the renowned hawker food stands wont be open yet.
On your return however you could do the city as things will be lively in the evenings. If you want to try the famous Chili Crab there are a few good seafood places near the airport you can try.

Quoting Initious (Reply 1): Tsk, how about meeting with a fellow a.netter? *winks*
LOL. Well definitely, that could be arranged. I'm still deciding whether we should tour Singapore on the outbound or inbound. But as LAXintl says...

Ah, thanks for the tip. It looks like it's better to tour Singapore at night then, plus, we'd have more time. I don't really think we're going to be in the mood of touring Singapore after a 20-hour journey.
Daniel, I'll message you in the near future once our plans will be confirmed!

I myself had a 6 hour layover at Changi Airport in October flying LHR-SIN-BNE, arriving on an A380 flight at 5.55pm to depart onwards at 12.10am, arriving and departing from Terminal 3. If you have any time in Terminal 3, try the butterfly garden - should be worth a look during daylight hours. After such a long flight from JFK you could always get a massage - in T3 there is a place that does a really good massage. I had an hour long massage at 6pm that Friday night after almost 5 weeks travelling around Europe and it was nice just to relax and have it - a 60 minute deep tissue massage cost me 90 Singapore Dollars. T3 also has shower facilities at the hotel, for only 8 and a half Singapore Dollars - was well worth it being able to have a shower and freshen up after being on a plane for over 13 hours from LHR that departed at 10.05pm. You could always sit on the upper level near some of the food outlets and watch the planes come and go. The end of T3 joins at T1 near gate B10 so you can walk between those terminals and check out the aircraft movements and whatever else is happening.

Also, I changed my return flight to the 8:10am flight to SIN, arriving at SIN at around 11AM. So, I'll have more than 12 Hours in SIN.
Is there a chance that we could take a bus to neighboring Malaysia or the ferry to the nearby islands of Indonesia? It's just for the sake of being in that country.

You can take a bus to Johor Bahru just across Malaysia if you really want to.
But personally I'd stick with Singapore. Since you have a few more hours now you can add something like taking the aerial tram to Sentosa Island to your itinerary. Otherwise spend most of the day in town, from Marina Bay (check out the Sands hotel), colonial part of town, Arab, India, Chinese sections plus all the shopping and entertainment off Orchard road.
You can do a tour also. That would probably give you good overview of the place in a short amount of time, and might save you some of the headaches of navigating around yourself. http://www.ducktours.com.sg/

Is there still a night zoo offering? Your return times are perfect for it. Google "Singapore night zoo". It is a nice experience, easy ride from the airport, and evening is a great time to walk around Singapore.

HAHA! I was just about to say that i spent 13 hours here just because i loved it there so much...you can't get bored there as there's so much to do. There's a nice quiet area in T3 on the higher levels (pics of it here) Singapore - Manchester AF 777 (by fca767 Oct 3 2010 in Trip Reports)

Yes there is still the night safari from 730pm to midnight daily. A pretty amazing and clever concept. After all the animals lay around during the day and are active at night. Much more comfortable also with lower temps to be outside.
