Why Is SFO-LHR Taking Such A Southerly Routing?

This flight has also been delayed 2 hours and taking a very south routing, I don't see any weather sigmets.

Thank Cameron, yeah i thought i'd take a look just now, it seems winds are from north further up but in their favour further south, but only by about 30 knots

It has to do with the winds. Flew SFO-AMS that day and had a similar routing. The winds were really strong, at times we flew at 703 mph!

When I flew LAX-LHR, we flew across US to around MCI before heading towards YYZ and YYT and then across the Atlantic.

I just flew PHX-LHR and it was also a very southern routing. Because of the winds. It was also quite a bit shorter than scheduled.

Thanks for the pic, what link is that from   It looks better up north though, although i cant see canada and i saw a north to south jet stream in one of the other websites.
