Fly an AA MD-80 to FAT and go backpacking in the Sierra Nevada backcountry. Do something out of Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite and maybe the Rae Lakes Loop in Kings Canyon. You won't be sorry.
You'll get plenty of granite "beaches" along the stunning alpine lakes under granite peaks at 10,000 feet.
but by no means limited to that. We like going out to eat, doing a little shopping and looking at pretty scenery.
I think you would love Prague, sorry no beach, Ticks all your other boxes.
Lived there for 3 months on a work detail, great people, fab old world buildings and atmosphere.
you don't get a second chance to make a first impression!

I think you should take a trip to SJU. It is actually better to go in December-January for best weather, but it is worth visiting. There are Caribbean beaches, historical buildings, natural parks and unique animals... I just came back from there 10 days ago (my sister lives there) and ti was a lot of fun!
Flew AA606 on the way there and AA1549 on the way back. I think there are two daily flight from DFW, but maybe even three. DFW-SJU is about 4 and a half hours

You'll be dying in MCT in August due to the heat !!!
Why not go for SXM ? Great beaches (remember Maho beach and landing aircraft) and great shopping...after a few days, you could also visit STT and/or SJU ?

Whatever you do, don't think of the Middle East in August - It's unbearable, the heat, the sand, the dust and the humidity...
And if it's 7-9 days only, you wouldn't want to spend 2 of them flying, would you? So target a max of 8-10 flight max...How about BOB, it's paradise on earth....pretty pricey thought (hotel and food), but there are good deals online for a full package, not much of shopping to be honest, a LOT of breathtaking scenery, and a lot of seafood
..you'd fly out of LAX on TN (only available option I'm afraid)..I am doing it in Apr, happy to report back when I am done...
I'd also recommend London, its about the Olympic time, so the city would be filled with lots of entertainment and festivity. you wouldn't find tickets to the events thought, but the atmosphere would be magical. For a day in the beach, hop into a train and head to Blackpool, nice beach (but not world class), but does the trick...Shopping is of course abundant, food even more so....
If all fails, take a globe sphere, give it a good spin, point your finger blindfolded and pack your bags and go...(hope you don't pick the middle of the pacific), if you end up in a crappy place, well "best of 3" is always an option
Best of luck choosing,,, the world is full of possibilities....and somehow, sometimes, that isn't enough....

Quoting DFWHeavy (Reply 9): If I go to Hong Kong, how many days would y'all recommend? Is it easy to hop over to somewhere like Macau, Shanghai, etc?
And no, it doesn't matter how far it is....I love heavies and flying
First time I was in HK I stayed there for 9 days and I found it to be the perfect amount of days. I had time for sightseeing, shopping, a visit to Macau and lots more. In August the weather is also perfect for a day on the beach in HK.
You can easily reach Macau with a speedboat, it only takes an hour, or you can take a helicopter. Also, there's no need to book tickets in advance for the trip to Macau, at least for the speedboat.
If you go to Macau, don't even consider not jumping bungy from the Macau tower
It's better to be in the air wishing you were on the ground than being on the ground wishing you were in the air

Quoting DFWHeavy (Reply 10): Can I explore the city in 2-3 days and then go to Shanghai for 2-3 days?
Well the second time I was in HK I was only there for 5 days and I thought it was not enough so I think you should stay there a bit longer, at least 7 days. I would skip the Shanghai trip for this time and instead focus on HK, Macau and Shenzen, which you can reach with the MTR. There's so much to see and do in HK so I think you would regret yourself if you would go for less than 7 days.

I'd avoid New Zealand in August. Cold and wet. You could go for the skiing but unless you were a year-round skiing fanatic you could do better elsewhere.
I'd look for a bargain flight to Tuscany. There are nice beaches there too.

Yes, Tuscany is beautiful. Went to Florence, Siena and stayed at a small 4* hotel in Radda, Italy. Flew into FLR on the LH CityLine ARJ, some heavy braking and powerful takeoff on the way back!

Thank you everyone for your thoughts on the matter. I found a heck of a deal and booked a week-long trip with the lady to RAR. We are taking the once weekly service from LAX.
Overall, my flights will be like this: DFW-SFO-LAX-RAR-LAX-SFO-DFW on UA and NZ.
We are really looking forward to it. I got tickets all in for $1,111.05 each.
If anyone has any advise on RAR, I'd be happy to hear it. We are planning on visiting Aitutaki as well.

I can recomend you
Colombia, go some days to Cartagena, than 2 days to Medellin and 2 days to Bogota it will be a perfect vacation!
Good food, great people, super beaches!
Peru, also August is not perfect I can highly recomend it, 3 days Lima (for me the best food in the world! and belive me I love to eat....), 3 days Cusco and Machu Pichu, and than 3 days to the north to Mancora Beaches or even better go to the amazonean jungle in Iquitos or Puerto Maldonado.
