New York JFK Airport Terminal 3
Quote: Travel guide expert Frommer's has just announced its list of the best - and worst - airports in the world - and it makes some surprising reading.
New York's JFK Airport Terminal 3 takes the top spot for the world's worst. "There's a sense that the cleaning crew gave up in despair a while ago," writes Frommer's.
The review packs no punches: "Endless immigration lines in a dank basement, an utter lack of food and shopping options, three crowded and confusing entry points, and hallways that could have been designed by MC Escher for vomiting international travellers out onto an underground sidewalk with no cabs available.
The worst ten and the best ten are listed in the link:

It's strange that Munich didn't make it to the top 10 best terminals. I find it much better and more convenient than Kéflavik or Madrid...
Not to mention that the terminal is way nicer and more moder-looking than these two.

It funny because I was saying T3 before I even opened the thread. Yes, T3 is a dump. A pigeon infested structure and the armpits of the Delta system (MEM not too far behind). Its a shame that DL has made their passengers endure the place for so long. A fix to T3 could have happened years ago but at the time we had short sighted managers, with Leo Mullin leading the whole lot. Instead of spending $500M on BOS, the money could have been used, well, at JFK. Look at what's left of Delta in Boston vs Kennedy...

Hahaha, same here! I don't usually fly DL, but a couple of years ago I went to pick up my daughter, who was arriving from BCN at JFK's T3. I took the Airtrain, exit at the T2/3 stop and.... I just couldn't believe how inconvenient, outdated, ugly, and yes, dumpy the whole T3 set up was. What an impression when one arrives to NYC.

I have been to all 10 of the worst airports and I would strongly argue that none of them are as bad as Lagos. Lagos only receives "honorable" mention in the photo link.
A bit surprised KL and HK are both absent from the top 10.

I am not going to argue that the T3 at JFK is the pits but I would like to ask what the parameters of Frommer's to only rate CDG as the 5th worst I would rank it as 1B. The best is a terminal that is only open for 6 weeks a year and only for people attending the Haj?

The article mentions LGA's Terminal 5 as being #7 on the Worst Airport list. Are they aware that LGA only has four terminals, and that they go by numbers, not letters?

7 billion, one nation, imagination...it's a beautiful day
The photo essay at the end of the article identifies LAX in its entirety as one of the world's worst. According to the SF Chronical, LAX is "8 terminals connected by a traffic jam." That is a hilarious, and unfortunately apt, description!
Still, some of the terminals aren't so bad. Delta's is okay and Alaska Air's terminal is being renovated as is the TBIT. LAX just needs to do all the terminals and be done with it.

The ranked CDG terminal is terminal 3 : mostly LCC and charters!
despite what everyone is saying, CDG is not that bad and I think that most of the people complaining about this airport did not go through it since a long time!

I think it's funny that the picture at the top of the article on AOL is actually of JFK T8, despite the fact that that terminal didn't make either best (as JFK T5 did) or worst (JFK T3) list.

I don't know how I should judge this company (Frommer's?). I wouldn't assess a terminal that is only used a few weeks of the year. That already is a mistake in the survey in my opinion. Keep those temporarily used airport terminals out of a survey that compares airports that are in use throughout the year.

Agreed - MDW is one of the nicer airports I've been to. The only problem I can see is that security lines can be horrendous at times, but this is hardly a unique problem and shouldn't be reason enough to make the worst 10 airports.

Why does the media gallery mention DEL/IGIA? I thought the new terminal is supposed to be spectacular! Granted, I have not visited it, but I haven't heard many complaints either.

CDG is pretty bad, dude. Logistically, connecting through it is a nightmare when compared to AMS. The use of remote stands and busses? It's so unprofessional and haphazard.
In addition, the quarantined/siphoned off areas are so claustrophobic. There's virtually 0 space for breathing room. The interiors are depressing and the dining options are insanely overpriced. That airport is just awful.

It's under construction. Deal with it.

That's so biased. It's hardly the worst, and only getting better. The bad terminals, TBIT, 3 and 6, are all under reno, rebuild, build-out. 2 and 7 are hardly the worst in the country, let alone the world, and 1, 4 and 5 are all middle of the pack or better.
EWR Terminal B is hardly the bottom 10, either. It's just long in the tooth.
Of all the things to worry about... the Wookie has no pants.

I find regional jet terminals to be the worst, since they're always the most active.
Terminal A2 at EWR, Continental's RJ terminal, is the worst, especially on a rainy night with delays. Thousands of people crammed into a tight, open, deafeningly loud rotunda with no walls and not enough seats.
Second place goes to Terminal F at PHL. More conventional layout, but still too loud, too crowded, and not enough seats.
Terminal 3 at JFK is like paradise by comparison.
Disclaimer: I haven't been through A2 at EWR for about two years, so forgive me if they've changed things post-merger.
Quoting nomadd22 (Reply 11): I was at that terminal last week. It did seem a little third world.
There is honestly nothing wrong with LAX or Terminal 6. Yes, terminal 6 does not have a modern look, and the renovation is making some mess, but there is nothing wrong with it. It is convenient, and it does the job very well.
