Hey everyone, I have a question.
For those of you who are similar with, or have an Amex Platinum/centurion Card, you must know about the companion airfare, or buy one get one free ticket in F/J. We are using this when we go to SYD and AKL from JFK on EK F this April, and there are 4 of us. My parents both have platinum cards, and what we are doing is, my dad is using his card for me and him, and my mom is using hers for her and my sister. My question is, do we get 4 chauffeur cars or at least a big van for 4 of us, or just 2 cars, bc of the 2 paying tickets(keep in mind they are FULL FARE TICKETS). We are traveling first class, and we have never used the companion airfare before. the emirates website says that the service is not available for complimentary tickets, but it's not very clear. I called EK, and the outsourced agents say we will definitely get it, while Amex isnt very sure. Do any of you know how this would work?
Any info is appreciated!

I have never tried that with Emirates but I have had some experiences with South African Airways and Swiss, and I usually got one car for me and my companion. I would imagine that getting 1 or 2 cars for the 4 of you (why would you need/want 4 cars?) is not a problem at Emirates. Further, bear in mind that the free companion tickets are not offered by Emirates but by American Express and thus Emirates has no reason to not provide normal services. This holds for the black card and surely for the platinum as well. Finally, there is nothing like giving a call to that magic number on the back of your card to obtain all the answers to your questions.

Be careful with the Amex account, you say that dad is using his card for 2 people and mum is using her card for 2 people but is these 2 seperate amex accounts? Is mums card a supplemental on dads account? Does he pay both accounts off at the end of the month? Amex might just view this as one account with extra card holders and offer one vehicle.

Yes. He pays off both bills at the end of the month, while I'm not sure if it is a supplemental account. Still, since we're paying for 2 passengers, I think 2 cars are standard.

I believe the tickets are courtesy of American Express, not EK; therefore, you should receive full EK services. That is what would make sense... if the EK agents are not very sure, then ask for a supervisor.

See that's the thing. I love EK, but when I ask for a supervisor, they sey they are the supervisor!

This is intriguing. Are all the bookings on the same PNR or (as there were separate payments) are they on individual reservations?

How was the booking made? Was it made online, over the telephone or through a travel agency? Was the request (for the chauffeur drives are not automatic) made at the time of booking or was it made subsequently?

If all of the booking was done through the EK call centre or an agency it is possible that one vehicle will be supplied to transport all of your party. If the booking was made online and you have separate PNRs and the request for the car was made under Mange a Booking, it is possible that you could receive two vehicles. However, when the contracted company allots drivers to pick up passengers they may see this as a duplication if you are all being collected from the same address.

It may be advisable to contact them to assure that your specific requirements are met. Either way, the company that is contacted to carry you to the airport should contact you the day before to confirm your travel arrangements.

Enjoy your flights!

We are EK frequent flyers, but never used the Amex offer before. It is 2 seperate booking, 2 people on each. We booked thru the phone. I'm guessing 2 cars will be supplied, anyway, it is enough. We usually fly JFK-HYD via DXB of course in J/F and then is when we need more cars, but for a vacation, 2 cars should be good

Is the companion ticket a worthwhile offer, or is it like other similar offers I am familiar with where the paid ticket has to be on the highest fare available and ends up costing more than two discounted tickets for the same cabin?

Just wondering.
