8h Between Flights At MXP

I'm travelling in June with Alitalia from the US to MXP and fly later on back home. The AZ flight arrives at 1020 and the LH flight I'm planning to take home would leave at 1820.

Do you guys think I have enough time to visit the city center and see the most important sites and enjoy the city, not only run around? I understand that AZ and LH have an interline agreement and it would be possible to check the baggage all the way to the final destination. Could someone please confirm this? This, of course, is very important, since I would not want to visit the city with all the luggage.

Thanks!

By all means do because you will be bored to death after the first hour spent at MXP. Plus, June is a great time to visit. The Malpensa Express travels to Milano Cadorna every half an hour and one-way trip costs EUR 11, journey time is 30 minutes - so you have plenty of time (at least 5 hours) to spend in the city and I would strongly recommend doing so, especially if you have not been there before.

Last summer, on the way back from my holiday, I was travelling MRU - DXB - MXP - VIE and though I had a stopover of only 6 hours, I managed to spend roughly 3.5 hours wandering through the fashion district ... I just love Milan to bits!

Thanks for the reply and for the info!

Luckily I don't have the intention to stay at the airport for the whole day! I could just book an earlier flight out of MXP or also stay for one night and leave on the next day. This does though not work very well with the flights I want to purchase, mostly because the next day would be a friday.

I've been to basically all major European cities, but not to Milan. I would like to enjoy the city and to see it relatively well. As an example I could mention that 4-5h was more than enough for me in Geneve to get to know the city a few years ago. I'd like to spend some time in the fashion district and also see the Dome and La Scala.

Yes this should be plenty of time to get into the city and get a reasonable taster of what's there. I did the same on a LHR-MXP-CPH routing many years ago and had 5 or 6 great hours exploring Milan.

Thanks!

Since I don't want to flood the forum with topics about my layovers, I'll ask a similar question about FCO and Rome here.

On the outward journey I'm arriving at FCO at 1950 and leaving the following morning at 910. Do you think it would be possible to squeeze in a night tour of Rome in the evening? I'm planning to stay in some hotel near FCO, but am also willing to stay in the city if the hotel is relatively cheap, but nice and clean and is close to where the airport train stops.

FCO has a train that connects the airport to Termini station in just about 35 minutes, so you could do some late night visiting in Rome. Also, there are a bunch of hotels nearby the station if you do not want to be around the airport.
