I need help identifying an airport in a sequence of family photos taken from a WA DC-10 (enlarge the thumbnails for a better view). Apologies for the picture quality...

It looks to me like Ontario, CA.

Just a WAG but looks like KSCK, Stockton, CA. Today's terminal still looks very much like the one in your pic. Not sure about the history of Western service to SCK though.

Pretty sure it's not Ontario

I was thinking stockton too, but didn't wasn't sure why a WA D10 would be there.

I said Ontario as Western used that airport for training----in fact lost a Boeing 720 there in a training accident...

Surely ONT didn't have all that open space around it in DC-10 days?

Think all the pics were taken on the same takeoff?

I looked at the picture again and you all are right----it is clearly Stockton---Western may have used this airport for pilot training as well-----but no debate it is Stockton.

That is defintely not ONT. Yes WA did conduct training flights there and they did operate out of there. However if it were ONT MT. Baldy would be behind the tower in the first shot and there clearly are no mountains. Also ONT doesn't have that much green and even back then they didn't either.

The middle shot looks like the current FedEx building at ONT.

The top shot looks like there are some CH-46's in the background, which does not look like ONT to me.

Surely ONT; my father worked there -- at the time of the 720 crash, in fact. WA may have served SCK, but never with a DC-10.

I was unaware that they trained in SCK.

Many thanks and happy contrails!

So looks like in the first pic the "L" in the foreground is the threshold of rwy 29L. Still can't figure where the last pic is.

I'm assuming it's the area NW of the airport under the departure pattern.

My father got to ride the delivery flight. Apparently he tagged along on a training flight as well.
