I found out today that through my new job, I'll be able to jumpseat once every six months for familiarization flights (CRJ/ERJ). I can't express in words how excited I am about this prospect. I would just like some insight into what to expect. I know about the sterile cockpit rule below 10,000ft. Thanks for the info, everyone.

The first 10 minutes and e last 20 are exciting if you've never done it before, otherwise you hope you have pilots that actually want to talk. And the RJ jump seats are cramped and uncomfortable, so hopefully you're not much taller than 6 ft.

I've had jumpseats on an MD82 IGR-AEP 2h (on a staff travel ticket) and AKL-SYD-AKL on a 763 3h/3.5h (as a famil) I love having the headseat on so I can listen to communications and It goes by pretty fast. I had a business class seat as well on the 763, but I spent no time there cos I really found it interesting

It's just wonderful! I've had 2 jump seats with Thomas Cook Scandinavia on their a321 from GOT to AYT and back to GOT and those were unforgettable flights.

Everything but the 777's jumpseats are uncomfortable in some way to me, but the view and the conversation make it more than tolerable. So, suffice to say, I will take a jumpseat over any seat in coach (if it can be helped.)
The worst I've ridden on is the wall jumpseat on the 757. It's utterly, and completely intolerable, but I'll take it over not getting home. The same seat on the 767 is worlds apart.
