Is two hours enough time to transfer from AA fright from ORD terminal 3 to LH flight in terminal1? I can save over $200 but not if I risk missing the connecting flight. Do you have to go through Canada Border and Customs and re-check you bags?

You will have to clear through Canada Border Services coming from the US and transferring to an international flight. That much I do know. Within terminal 1 it is recommended that you give yourself at least an hour, however you have to change terminals.

Where you will be changing terminals I'm not sure about your baggage. Hopefully someone else can answer that for you. I assume it will be tagged through. When you fly into and then out of terminal 3 you have to pick up your bags before clearing CBSA and then you drop them back off, there is a belt for connection baggage that needs to be rechecked. When you fly into and out of terminal 1 you don't need to pick up your baggage since they screen it for you while you just proceed to your gate. Since your changing terminals it doesn't say online what you need to do. I would guess since your arriving into terminal 3, you will have to pickup your bags.

You will be able to take the LINK train between terminals which has between a 4 to 8 minute frequency depending on the time of day.

My guess (please correct me if I'm wrong) is that you will have to collect your baggage and go through Customs in T3, then take the train over to T1 and check-in there with LH because AFAIK there is no airside transfer between the terminals, just the landside LINK train mentioned above.

However, I would call/e-mail AA or LH and see what they say about transferring the luggage. If they will transfer the luggage for you (without you having to wait for it in T3) then I would go for it, but if you have to pick up your bags and recheck it could be cutting it close. I've had bags take a long time in T3, though customs isn't usually too bad and LH check-in appears quick enough when I've walked by.
