Combining the worst, or the best, of the namesake predecessors? There were rumors of an Eastern Airlines revival a year or so ago. Pan Am has been revived too many times. I don't know if it sounds odd to me because I'm used to hearing Eastern or Pan Am, but the conjoined names do not make make a smooth, memorable brand name.

What is the idea behind the name; the reason for using it?

Sounds not special, like a movie airline name with no reference to nothing...

And its already taken by a trading company. If you are related to it, then it could make sense. If not, it could mean trouble ahead...

Why would you want to name an airline Pan Eastern?

For the name to have any sense, the airline would have to be located in the East of something (Eastern) and to trade in all that region (Pan).

Not unless the purpose of the name were to drive away potential passengers.

It's only trouble if they operate in that region and there is "brand confusion". Unless the Indian company is in the aviation game, or has a similar logo, then I would not expect any legal issues.

Flying refined.

Phil:
I am pleased to announce you have been selected to head up the new Asian/Oceania Division. Your salary will be determined by "PEEP"...the"Pan Eastern Express People's" Union which you will be required to become a member of.
Please begin an immediate search for fold-down berths to equip the Constellations, as we will want to offer a premium "Now its Time to Lay Me Down" sleeper service to SYD.
By-the-Way...or is it BTW? You can live anywhere you want, but we're not flying FOR DAYS to attend one of YOUR staff meetings. The fuelstops are bad enough.......
