All:

I will have 2.5 hrs on Sunday at AMS. What should I do with my time. I will have spent the previous three day in AMS on a city break, so going into the city-centre is not necessary.

Thanks for your tips, as ever.

Hmm, 2,5 hours is not much. Not knowing what you have done in the previous 3 days, but you might consider a 1-hour canal-boat trip, price usually around EUR 13,-

On Sunday from 12.00 (noon) the shops are open in the citycentre till about 18.00 hours.

Weahter is quite nice these days in AMS, so consider a train ride to Zandvoort aan Zee, direct trains from Amsterdam Centraal Station. In Zandvoort walk straight out of the hotel towards the Northsea beach. Find several beachhouses, cafe etc overlooking the beach and enjoy a light meal, a drink or whatever you like.
Calculate about 30 minutes for the trainride. So you have about 90 minutes left to spend in Zandvoort.

No, sorry, I only meant at the airport+immediate area around it.

Hello Lows,

If you have 2.5 hours to spend at Schiphol Airport, I recommend that you stay and enjoy the Airport. The closest place to visit nearest to AMS -SCHIPHOL AIRPORT is a city called Hoofddorp. You can take a train which takes 5 minutes. There is not that much to do there, however there is a small shopping centre and many business offices, but on Sundays many stores are closed. Why not go and visit the observation deck at AMS and enjoy the aircraft in an outdoor environment.

Another option is to take a taxi to a Highway bridge buffet restaurant with a distant view over the Airport, and you can see planes flying quite low. You have to take a taxi, which takes approximately 7 minutes. Please see the link below:

Enjoy AMS!

Best,

AMS

Bus numbers 370 or 60 also call at the 'bridge buffet reataurants' and are of course much cheaper tomridemon then a taxi.

Though, I recommend the observation deck and Plaza shopping centre.

With the weather being okay, just hang around on the observation deck.
Before heading to there, stock up on food and drinks on Ground level of Shiphol Plaza with its numerous food outlets, one small supermarket next to Burger King, and one "Albert Hijn (AH) to go" convenience store enroute to the Rental Car counters; at the latter decent bread rolls can be bought among other things.

I actually ended up not getting to AMS until about 13.30, but did spend 10 minutes in one of those massage pod things. Easily the best 4€ that I spent the whole trip...
