I Want To Fly In A 747 Or 777

Hey all, quick question. I don't fly that often, maybe once every few years. But I'll be taking a trip in March from PIT to LAX. I've always wanted to fly on one of those aircraft, especially a 747. But looking at fares out of PIT it's all US and of course airbus, 319 or 320.

Any help on how I can find a way, I appriciate it.

Thanks!!!

Well, you could try flying to ORD or DEN on UA and getting on one of the 777 flights they have to LAX. For some reason the 744 flights are usually ex-LAX only as tags to the Australia and NRT flights. 777 will be your best bet. You can also try CO to IAH or AA to DFW. I believe they each fly a 777 or 2 to LAX

Your best bet is to download the UA E-timetable, and look up the possible connections. ORD-LAX and IAD-LAX will probably provide you with a 747 or 777. I have flown several times between LAX and ORD on both a 747 and a 777, and they're both worth the time and effort to find!!

Best of luck to you!!

Go PIT-DFW-LAX and get on the 772 from DFW-LAX.

As of the schedule right now, you could get both planes. Connect in ORD to UA 121 at 3:00 PM to LAX for your 777 ride and fly out of LAX at 2:00 PM on UA 120 for the 744. You could also do UA 125 on the way out at 5:00 PM for the 744 and UA 100 at 6:00 AM (yuck) for the 777. Don't know what it would look like in March, as it is not in the OAG yet but this might not be a bad indicator as the flight times that bring these planes to LAX probably wont change much

First off, take a look at UA's schedule from ORD-LAX using every possible combination. Although if you want to fly on a 747 or 777, you're most feasable routes other than the obvious ORD-LAX will probably be either:

ORD-SFO-LAX
ORD-DEN-LAX
ORD-DEN-SFO-LAX

Then find a flight on USAir that coincides with your chosen ORD-LAX schedule. Overnight at ORD if you have to. Chicago is a fun place!

Of course, you can also use DEN as your second starting point.

Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

A little simple internet research could have answered this question.

However, if you do find the 777 or 747 flight you want and book it... then United changes your flight to an A320... please don't start a "The Nerve of ..." thread.  Smile

AGC525.....I read your profile. You are still young. The birds you wish to travel on will be around a while. I would go after a DC9 or 737-200. The days are numbered with those two compared to the wide bodies you choose.

Yeah, this happens from time to time. Happened to me back in April. I picked out my AA flights MIA-LAX-MIA back in February to fly the 777. Turns out sometime in March they "downgraded" to 763.

I sure was disappointed, but I did get my 777 flight in August --- made a special trip MIA-DFW-MIA. It was well worth the $200 or so.

And, oddly enough, my flight in September MSY-MIA was cancelled due to Hurricane Ivan (or was it Carl or Frances... too many hurricanes down here this year!). Anyway, AA rerouted me MSY-DFW-MIA and the DFW-MIA segment was on the 777. AA also bumped my seat up to the biz class cabin with 5 FEET of legroom.

I felt like I died and went to heaven!

I appriciate everyone's input. I tried searching the internet but couldn't find anything, and I figured the frequent flyers here would have the information. I know the 777 will be around for a long time, but I didn't think the 747 had much time left. I promise not to start any pissy threads if my aircraft gets bumped.  Smile (hell, since I've always flown out of PIT on US I've only flown on 319's, 320's and 737's) so anything else would be cool. I think I'll take all of your advice and see some other cities.

I wish there was still scheduled 747 service out of PIT, I miss when BA had the one daily flight.

Thanks again.

Northwest's DC-10's are another oldie-but-goodie whose days are numbered. Maybe you could combine a DC-9 and DC-10 in the same trip.

Unfortunately, Northwest doesn't operate DC-10s domestically aside from going to Hawaii.

I couldn't find any 747 flights from PIT to LAX during March 05', however there will be 767s and 777s then.

You could go on a 747 this October if you did this following example itinerary...
