For those who have flown on Russian- and Soviet-built aircraft, do you like them? If yes, which is your favourite and why? I personally really like them, as they offer a more exciting and fun experience than standard 737s. My favourite is probably the TU5 (a tad standard, but hey), IL6 or IL-18.

The IL86 and IL96 looks very smart. I do not care too much for the others though. But I really cannot base it on anything other than loooks as russian aircraft only very occasionally operate into AKL.

Russian planes are great provided they are properly maintained and crewed.
I have flown on IL-76's and AN-12's both are excellent at what they do, best part is they normally have a bed, so if you have spent too much time at the bar the night before (Im not crew just the commercial representative) your flight is over in no time.
From a commercial standpoint I would rather be payin the ACMI rates for these two aircraft than their western counterparts.
Personally I think provided MX and crew are good they are as safe as anything else in the sky. But I think it will be many years before if ever the western flying public will be travelling on Russian Gear.
I have never flown on a Russian passenger aircraft so I wouldn't really know.

I realy like Russian aircraft - I've only been on one though, but it was pretty cool. An Ilyushin IL62M, Aeroflot, Malta-Luanda-Johannesburg in 1993 - it was a bit of a nightmare journey, but I had fun and it was good to go on a classic Russian airliner. I want to go on a few more.

I wish I had ridden on one - any one!
I really like Russian and Soviet passenger aircraft; I always thought they had a lot of personality. I particularly like the Tu-134 with its old-fashioned interior, of which pictures have recently appeared here!

I do like russian jets, ive flown on the IL-62 (HY) and IL-96 (SU) both amazing aircraft, and something different.
The IL-96 looks huge from the inside, the aisles are VERY wide, an excellent plane.
The IL-62's were quite old, but appeared to be in good shape (not overlly rattly during take off)
I would liek to try out the TU-154 in the future, as well as teh IL-86 with the cargo deck entrance.

Gone with the TU-154, noiser than Boeings and Airbuses otherwise no problem.
Russian/Ukrainian planes/helicopters usually got good airframes, but not so good engines, noisy and thrusty...

Never having flown on one, it's hard to say. However, I really like the new An-140 and An-148, both of which are built in the Ukraine. I'm of Ukranian ancestry, which explains the bias.
Also, the 140 resembles both the BAe Avro series as well as the Fairchild-Dornier 328Jet.

oh wow good question, i flew on Tu-154s....wow can that thing climb or what? anyone vouch for this? We took off outta moscow where the TAT was -26 cel. that thing was like a ROCKET!
My only concern was the inch thick ice we accumulated around the not so tightly sealed seals...
cheers
