I have had a search through the forums and can't find any topic like this one in the last 8 years and I'm sure there have been some more contenders since then!

Simple question, who do you think holds the award for the best looking colour-scheme on an aircraft?

Braniff certainly had the best in the seventies, especially the Alexander Calder aircraft.

Depends on the aircraft type. I think that Frontier has the best A320 family livery. Any livery looks great on a 737.

That looked more like a 1 year old playing with pastels. That paint job was hideous! I am glad it is gone.

That big B747 painted in orange going between HNL and DFW was eye catching.

If we're talking about regular liveries, I'm still very partial to the 777 in its original BA scheme:

The "Landor" livery looks rather majestic on any aircraft, but somehow the proportions on the tail seem just right on this particular aircraft.

As for special liveries, my all-time favourite is CX's original "Spirit of Hong Kong" 747-200:

In all its elegant simplicity, it is very clear about the city it is promoting.

SInce I should probably include something that's actually flying, my current favourite is this 767:

It may be very brown indeed, but come on - paint your private widebody to look like a bandit when you're Roman Abramovich, of all people? Think of him what you will, but that does show a sense of humour.

The Iron Maiden "Ed Force One" was interesting. Dull name, but really nice livery. It was a 737 if I am not mistaken.

And I'm sure I'll get flamed you advocating for "Euro White"

Quoting byronicle6 (Reply 13):

Now that looks VERY smart! I'd only ever seen it on the A320 and 77W - but I think it looks great on anything. I just wish that NZ would adopt it as their real livery! What with the colour black and the silver fern it is great tribute to the country!

Other than the celebration of the indigenous culture on Wunala etc, I was trying to think how QF could adopt a similar "image" of Australia on their aircraft and it became very cliched very quickly! I guess the giant roo is enough of a giveaway

You may add that this comes from someone who has spent a decent sum of money on a 1/200 scale model of "Wunala Dreaming".
