Here's a question to all the Brazilian experts here on the forum.
I understand that GIG has two "rotundas", one is terminal 1 and one is terminal 2. On Wikipedia I also see that there are terminals 1A, 1B, 1C and 2A and 2B. Do these "terminals" only refer to different check-in areas, or are there specific gates attached to these sub-terminals? In other words, do all the airlines that use - for example - Terminal 1A park next to each other, then the airlines using 1B park next to each other, and so on? Or are gates assigned only according to terminal 1 vs. terminal 2, but independent of whether it's A, B or C?
If it's specific gates per sub-terminal, which gates/stands belong to which sub-terminal? Are there any airlines at GIG that never use jetbridges but always open stands?
Now a similar question regarding SDU airport: are gates assigned randomly or is there a pattern which airline uses which gates at SDU?

From the passenger point of view, all that matters is T1 vs T2 and domestic vs. international. T2 has glass partitions down the middle of the passenger areas, but only two security checkpoints, so each level can be segregated into thirds, roughly. Some airlines arrive at a gate, then use buses for departures--no idea why.

2A and 2B are Wikipedia inventions. There is a partition between domestic and international, that's it.

They refer to both, but the gates do not carry letters. T1 used to be divided by colour sectors. A was red, B was blue and C was green. Originally, there were no sectors, but the letters rather referred to the security check-points, but that's not important here.
For example, if you're flying American, you check-in in sector B and go through security in that sector, where you will also board. If you want, you can visit sector C gates. You will be able to do that by going up the escalator to the commercial level and down some other escalators again. You will not be able to see sector C on the gates level even though they are on the same level. There is a wall between both sectors.
Sector B is isolated from Sector A, since it's domestic.
Terminal 2 is not like Terminal 1, since it only has two sectors, international and domestic.

There is a schedule for gate assignment, but once flights are delayed, gates start being randomly assigned
