Im flying from FRA-LGW in June with LH and then LGW-ABZ with Flybe.
Now of course this is two separate bookings but the BE flight departs from the same terminal as the LH flight arrives at so can I go through connections or do I need to head out the exit and back through security?

The U.K. is not part of the Schengen area.
You therefore need to clear Immigration down south of the border (= at LGW).
If you have your BP for yor BE-flight at hand (after OLCI) you can use "Flight connections" if this exits and you do not have luggage checked.
