I am aware that the Corcorde Room at LHR is only for passengers who old a first class boarding pass- even the highest one world members of BA frequent flyers are not allowed in there.
But I am wondering- when travelling out from LHR on a BA Business class ticket- how many lounges are available to use? and which one is more preferred?
Also- why doesn't BA move all its flight to terminal 5- I think some flights still operate from Terminals 2 and 3 . Iberia operates from Terminal 5- so this clearly indicates that there is still room for more flights to be operated by terminal 5. ?!

As far as I'm aware, at LHR Terminal 5 "A" (the main one) there is a "North" and a "South" club lounge. (Correct me if I'm wrong) but the South lounge is nearer to the domestic gates whereas the North lounge is nearer to the international ones. As for what's in them, I don't know.
There is also a club lounge over at the Satellite terminal "5B" but unless your flight goes from 5B or 5C there isn't an easy way (other than a complicated passage and long underground walk described in a trip report on here a few months ago) to get back to the main Terminal 5A.

Iberia is owned by IAG who own BA (and BA are the major shareholder in IAG). As a result, the flights to/from MAD are operated as a joint venture and many passengers originating in MAD may be connecting to long haul out of Terminal 5. Some BA flights go out of Terminal 3 because there is not enough space in Terminal 5 for all the flights, so flights that run as a joint venture or in partnership with other One World airlines (apart from AA) tend to go out of Terminal 3. These include HEL (as AY codeshare) BKK & SIN (due to QF joint venture on the UK-Australia routes) also BUD still goes out of Terminal 3 from when Malev was around (and part of One World). Additionally, routes where there are no one world codeshares/connections or very little connection to long haul flights (such as the leisure routes including Larnaca, Warsaw, Vienna, Bucharest) also go from Terminal 3.
There is no Terminal 2 at LHR yet, this was closed down for the construction of the new terminal 2 which is not yet open (originally BD were going to be based there with all Star Alliance flights moving across to it). Terminal 1 (which is due to close in a couple of years as Phase 1 of Terminal 2 opens) was the terminal BD operated from. IAG recently purchased BD and as a result some of the BD flights now carry BA flight numbers and for the time being (until either more space is created at Terminal 3 or Terminal 5) they will remain over at Terminal 1.

If I recall correctly Executive Club Gold members can actually use First Class and Concorde Lounges in spite of the class they fly. I assume that the top level frequent fliers in the One World alliance can do the same.

Are you sure on this? As I thought the primary USP for the concorde room was that it could only be used by BA F passengers !

Quoting FlyIndia (Reply 2): what are the lounges BA offers to its First and Business class passengers from Terminal 3 LHR?
Galleries Club and Galleries First. Neither are particularly exciting, and the CX lounge seems to be more popular for OW travellers.

Nope, access is restricted to F pax and Premier Club members (which is by invitation only, and is restricted to a few thousand members).

What one world status do you need to have to get access to the CX lounge at heathrow?

Quoting qf002 (Reply 5): The BA lounges in T3 are pretty indifferent TBH. I can't speak for the ones in T5, though

Correct. In fact for IB with their 9 daily flights to MAD (BA operate a further 5) to be accommodated at T5 several BA services were shifted to T3, as mentioned these were services with limited connecting traffic. The routes there now are HEL, BUD, VIE, LCA (BA's only 767 route from T3), WAW, OTP, GIB, LIS and PRG. Many of these were flown with 757s until the fleet was retired in 2010. HEL additionally has the OneWorld tie-up with AY, hence it's being there. While MA (RIP) were in OneWorld, they actually flew from T2 not T3 until they decamped to LGW around 2008. Added to these are the QF JSA services to BKK, SIN and SYD. As of now T5 does not have sufficient room for all of BA's services at LHR.

...and Concorde Room cardholders. 5000 tier points (12 roundtrips in F) in a membership year gets you that.
...also passengers who have arrived same day in First and connecting on elsewhere.

South lounge is generally considered the international one with the North lounge for domestics but anyone with access to a Galleries Club can enter either.

I checked on the Gold Executive Club chart and it says that as a Gold member you can actually access First class lounges in spite of the class you fly. Concorde room, instead, is accessible only when flying First. I got the first one, missed the second one

Thanks for clearing that one, for some reason I had it in my head that the domestic A gates faced South!

Of course! I forgot MA moved to LGW in 2008, I actually thought they operated LHR and LGW for some reason :S
The 757s operated out of Terminal 3 because they couldn't handle the containerised baggage system at Terminal 5. I think BA/BAA needs to seriously find a way of expanding Terminal 5 or increasing the number of departure gates (even just remote gates) because the BD merger will result in being split across 3 terminals and any new routes BA want to operate with the BD slots won't fit in Terminal 5.
