Despite how miserable air travel is today, your flight attendants still truly care about your travel experience and one of the things we "don't do" at my airline is make credit card announcements, even though we are "supposed to".

We feel that once you're on board, you, the passenger who has just escaped the loud, stressful, degrading airport experience, doesn't want to hear any marketing scheme. Our company doesn't agree with our judgement.

Recently, our company told us that they're starting a "new initiative" where they will compensate $25 to each flight attendant who turns in an application.

I am personally against making the announcement, even if there is a financial incentive, but I don't want to have my fellow coworkers miss out if this option is available to them. I also don't want my company to "miss out" on an opportunity to make revenue, when all of the other airlines are doing the same thing.

I'd like to hear what you, a passenger, thinks about these "credit card announcements" on board the aircraft.

I completely agree that people are subjected to so much with traveling to the airport, checking in, going through security, and boarding the aircraft that the last thing they need to hear once they're on board is an advertisement or solicitation. While non revving on a flight a while back it appears that they've added some advertisements to the IFE which I think is pushing it.

Instead of disturbing everyone towards the end of the flight hawking the card and then walking through the aisles asking everyone if they want an application the crew should mention the card in the initial announcement after take off and then let the pax ask for an application. While doing the 10,000ft announcement about the beverage service, etc. they could just add a quick mention; something like: "We are pleased to have partnered with AMEX to offer the Delta SkyMiles AMEX Gold Card. This card enables you to check a bag for free for you and up to 8 others. Also, cardholders receive enough miles for a free round trip ticket. If you have any questions about the program or would like an application please ask a crew member." Simple, quick, and to the point. After that don't mention the CC again unless a pax inquires.

Sorry about the rant but on that one flight I took it seemed really tacky!! I will say though, that on my last 10 flights on about 8 of them the CC wasn't mentioned at all which was fine by me.

Flew US Airways to the Caribbean and it felt like they were pushing it almost the entire flight - ie multiple announcements = extremely tacky. Can not imagine a legacy European or Australian carrier doing such a thing...

What about the announcements on Food for purchase? Drinks? Duty Free? Frequent Flyer Programs? Do you get incentives for those? No? But you do it any way. So, a way for you to earn an extra buck is an inconvenience?

We expect these types of announcements just keep them brief and not intrusive.

The announcements are annoying, tacky and off-putting. There already is more than enough advertising in airport terminals, often including pushy credit card salespeople. I don't like ignoring people, even if they're trying to sell me something, but the horrible credit card pushers make even me run and look elsewhere.

So Johnny Passenger is already saturated with advertisements when he steps aboard the aircraft. But when he opens the on-board magazine, the barrage continues... so every little moment of respite is welcome. That is why I am grateful for every credit card announcement that isn't made.

Walk together, talk together all ye peoples of the earth. Then, and only then, shall ye have peace.

I hardly notice them. I tend to listen to the initial first few seconds of an announcement and tune out the rest if it doesn't seem critical.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the captain has informed us..." - yup I'm listening.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we have an interesting offer..." - lost me.
