Hey everyone,
I'm preparing for an upcoming trip to the Middle East in Y and am looking to connect thru AMS with KLM. My flight options for the AMS leg include MD-11 service out of ATL, 747 Combi service out of JFK, or DL A333 service out of either DTW or MSP. Alternatively I could do DL 767 out of ATL or MSP, but I don't think this is the best option. Do you have any recommendations? I've reviewed other posts and it appears all three offer PTVs (not DL 767s). When KLM retrofitted their 747s and MD-11s with PTVs did they receive entirely new seats as well? Connection times on all are acceptable, so I'm just looking for your recommendations. Thanks!

MD-11 hands down. The A333 will be around for years and the 744 Combi.. Well, I'd say it'll be around for a little while. But the MD-11 will soon be phased out completely and you may never get another chance to fly in one.

Definitely go with the MD11. It will likely be your only choice to fly on that bird.

Thanks for the responses so far! I've had an opportunity to fly an MD-11 previously with Delta back in the early 2000's and I remember enjoying the aircraft. From a comfort standpoint, how does the MD-11 compare?
I've flown on an Alitalia 747-200 but never on a -400, so that does make the 747 option somewhat intriguing as well.
Like the other guys said: MD11 for sure! I did 300+ flights on the MD11 and I enjoyed them all. And soon they are gone, so go for it as long as possible.

Yeah but it's a fact that the 744 will still be around for some time, unlike the MD-11. There are huge fleets still within the likes of BA, which will take some time to be replaced.

From an enthusiasts point of view, most definately the MD11 as everyone has already said. As for a comfort, I'd say the DL A330. I flew AMS-YUL last year on the MD11, I enjoyed it but hated being stuck in a window seat in a 3-X-3configuration (although having said this you could go for the last row which is two abreast on either side).
My flight ATL-AMS the next day was far more comfortable, 2-4-2 is far more bearable and the cabin was far more comfortable in general.
I know I'm gonna be hated for saying that, but an opinion is an opinion. Be assured that I also hate myself just a little bit for preferring the A330!
If I could fly the MD11 again, I would. But it would depend on the length of flight and if I could get the back row/an upgrade.

Flights haven't been booked yet, but I think the decision has been made: 747 out of JFK. I need to do my Global Entry interview, and JFK is the only place that is available during the times I'll be in transit. I've never been on a 747-400 and the last 747(-200) that I was on, was Alitalia in 2000. I'm due!
