Q: LHR T5 Connection. 1h40m Enough?

Hi guys,

We're flying BA 278 LAX to LHR landing at 10 AM BST and then BA 344 LHR to NCE departing at 11:40AM BST in Club World/Club Europe.

I've never flown into T5 (nor LHR) so I have a few questions:
#1. Is there security/immigration check if we're connecting to another international flight after arriving from LAX?
#2. Is 1h40m enough for the connection?
#3. Is it at all possible to use the Lounges to freshen up before jumping on to the flight to NCE?

I apologize for the "newbie" questions. Any response/help is greatly appreciated.

2. If your flights aren't delayed much, yes it is. I've done a HEL-LHR-JFK with 1h50min at LHR and a terminal change from T3 to T5 so I would assume it would be enough because the terminal change took most of the time then.

No immigration, but you will pass through flight connections security. Can get busy at peak times.

Based on your class of travel CE, you'll be able to access Galleries lounges in T5 for a shower / food etc. Even if you were travelling to NCE in economy, apparently you should be able to use the lounges as you arrived on a CW flight, but I am happy to be corrected!

you should be fine....

as you get to the immigration you'll go over to the connecting flights passport control. get your papers looked at and then walk up a set of stairs directly into the security line. go trough the TSA song and dance and then youul be on the central T5 mall. look at the info boards to see where your gate is (normally won't be there until 1h-45min before departure (or boarding). if your flight departs from a concourse don't go out there until you have everything you want in the main terminal- obviously don't miss your flight- but there is not much out on the concourses and there is no reasonable way back.

other than that have fun, and enjoy the terminal.

If the flights are on time you will be fine.

Since you are traveling Club Europe out of LHR you can use the priority line for passport check and security (it should be the farthest to the right), though, as it was mentioned, it could be a bit busy at times.

After you clear security you could even have enough time to stop by one of the BA lounges (as you come out of security turn left and there should be one really close there just in front of you... I think this should be the North lounge). I do not think I ever had to walk/travel more than 15 minutes to get to my gate from the BA (North) lounge, even if I had to go to another concourse.

Thanks for the info, guys. Very useful information. I hope our flight to LHR won't be delayed.

I know this is kinda off the original topic but is anyone familiar with TGV service? I bought tickets online from Euro Rail for the trip from Aix-en-Provence TGV to Paris Gare Lyon and received my paper tickets. Am I supposed to exchange the paper tickets to boarding passes (or something like that) at the Aix-en-Provence TGV station?

Thanks in advance.

I guess all of the above answers are fine as long as you're on a single ticket for both flights? In which case don;t worry at all. Even if your LAX flight is delayed, you'll be put on the next flight (there are several each day between T1 and T5).

No, your paper tickets will be fine as they are.

Enjoy flying Club World... it is my favorite business class (that I have flown anyway  .

As for your other question... I took the TGV from London to Paris and back to London several years ago (so things may have changed). I remember there was some kind of check-in done before boarding the train, but I do not remember what all we did at that point...

Have a safe trip!

We flew a week ago arriving 30 minutes late so only had one hour to connect to our flight to Lyon but we still had time to go the lounge for a quick bite. Another negative is if you do not arrive at a gate but a remote gate so need to wait for busses. For some reason that always seems to take forever when we go and the busses are not there.

While you may clear the security section quickly in fast track (i.e. show the passport and onward ticket) you may find when you take the escalator up to clear security that a non fast track line may be faster (you are funneled in to fast track security but those lines were longer. The south Lounge is also usually less crowded and is much larger. The food is great - especially the oatmeal in the morning.

As long as you purchased a through ticket - I would not worry about it, no running ,no rushing, if the flight is gone, its gone, use the lounge, enjoy LHR T5.

Have a great trip!
