In similar vane to the recent SFO post, but this is really out of a lot of concern.
Last night a friend of mine from Japan missed her connection at LAX because of "an excessive line at customs." I'm going the opposite direction, PHX-LAX-NRT. My layover is 1h12m, given nothing happens.....but, should I be concerned?
Where does the 77L park and where do the CRJ's park at LAX?
Should I try to get on an earlier flight to LAX? What do you guys suggest?

If you can get an earlier flight then you should do so. You should allow yourself enough time when connecting. 1 hour 12 mins would be sufficient, but if you can get one slightly earlier you should do so or you can do what I did on my recent trip, hope and pray for no delays ( worked for me ), it also helps to walk briskly, because even though you have that 1 hour, gates closure is usually about 10-20 mins before departure!
hope this helps

You will be just fine departing from Phoenix... Whether you arrive at T6 or T5, all you really need is about 40 mins in between flights to allow baggage transfer.

Quoting AlnessW (Reply 2): Pretty sure everything should be at Terminal 5.
However, I have heard that DL sometimes runs NRT flights in and out of Terminal 6 (though that might just be for 747s). LAXintl can probably confirm.
When I came home from Japan last year, I connected at LAX. Our 330 landed, parket at T-5, walked ALL THE WAY to customs, got out, waited in line in security, walked to the end of T-5 for my CRJ flight to PHX....which was parked RIGHT NEXT to the 330 which took me from Japan. I was waiting in line through customs and security for 90 minutes
Yeah that's what Wiki said. It's a 77L like I said but I think they'll be at T5, albeit I'm not sure. How would I get to T-6?
Quoting AirAfreak (Reply 3): Need not worry, Delta will get you there =]

Still seems like that's cutting it a bit close.

Is the walk from aircraft to FIS at Terminal 5 especially long?

My understanding is that DL parks 747s at Terminal 6 (and uses the FIS facility there) because Terminal 5 can't take a 747 without shutting down additional gates.

Yeah -_- it took a good 5-10 minute walk. THEN waiting 40 minutes in security, then being yelled at by a pissed off agent because the guy in front of me was supposed to be in the foreigners line, then waiting another hour for security. Barely made my connection, but with enough time to spare for a pizza
Somehow I always remember what I spend my first $10 whenever I return from an international flight.
Time before that at JFK we were at Wendy's. Buddy of mine made a that's what she said joke after I announced to him that it was the "first time in 3 weeks I've held one of these," referring to a $10 bill. Entire restaurant was erupting in laughter, including a mother of like 5 kids who were bewildered.
funny story over.
Quoting AlnessW (Reply 5): They are connected post-security via an underground tunnel. Just follow the signs.

Can't forget about stopping for food!

Quoting PHX787 (Reply 6): Doesn't sound that bad then.
Quoting rwy04lga (Reply 8): Don't be concerned about the completely sterile looking tunnel. I was the only one in the tunnel the whole time I walked through it.
