I think it's definitely worth flying business. It will cost you less than double of the miles to fly coach, and the taxes you need to pay are probably the same. You get much more use out of your miles when flying business or first than coach. The swiss business class is supposed to be excellent, whereas the LH has the old business class in the A380 but the new first. I would fly business class with swiss and use the remaining miles for another flight, but it's also because I don't really care too much about the LH FCT in FRA, especially given that the time between your flights is likely to be under 2h

If you have enough miles, go for First class. Why not? Ive never flown LX before, but I would fly LH If I were you. Also, to make most use of your miles, schedule a long layover at FRA so you can experience FCT. And if don't mind me asking, what cruise line are you taking? Just curious
Have a great trip!

I am taking the CARNIVAL BREEZE from Barcelona (calling at Palma de Mallorca, Malaga,Las Palmas, Antigua, St. Maarten !!! Miami). then a couple of days in Miami before I fly to San Francisco (its looks that I will fly United to SJC as they are the cheapest and due to lots of Bags and my Star Gold Status its the best to fly with them). Then I will stay at the Radisson Fishermans Warf and then back. That's my plan !

I still think you should go from Ft. Lauderdale to SFO non-stop on Virgin America. Going by UA will be at least one-stop. SJC is about 60 miles south of San Francisco. It will cost you a lot of money to get to the SF wharf from San Jose. You may or may not have VOD on UA, you definitely will with Virgin as well as ordering food and drink from your video screen in a mood lighted cabin. If you want a unique flying adventure, walk on the wild side and go Virgin!
