Hey everybody!
I'm hoping someone could answer some questions I have about KLM. I'll be taking them on a trip from Vancouver to Amsterdam and back in the upcoming little while and was wondering what I should expect. Without an unexpected A/C change, it should be on a 77E in economy. Just wondering what I should expect in terms of seat, service, IFE etc.. I've never flown them before and so as you can imagine, I'm excited!

I know that SeatGuru is hit-and-miss, but I noticed something intriguing there about the KL 77E. It said that the window seats at row 40 have a little extra leg room, because the angle of the seats is adjusted at that row to adjust for the tapering of the fuselage. So the aisle seat has normal pitch, but the seat nearest the window is swung back just a bit and last few rows of seats are then installed at the new angle. Can anybody confirm this to be true? I grabbed that seat just in case it is real. I mostly wanted a window seat that wasn't over the wing.

The first thing you'll notice upon boarding is that the flight attendants all wear wooden shoes. LOL. And most assuredly, they will correct your pronunciation of Gouda cheese.

KLM long-haul (after only two segments) is absolutely fantastic!
I had the pleasure of flying KLM from Atlanta-Amsterdam on the 777 and from Amsterdam-Washington/Dulles on the A330. Immediately, upon boarding, the cabin crew is all smiles and all very friendly. I even took two domestic flights within Europe on KLM and found the same great service, too!
Some highlights I will mention for my experience in Economy Comfort:
-Choose Row 10 - the bulkhead rows, and definitely worth the extra $100.00
-The bread they serve with the meals were always soft and HOT!!!! In a nice, fresh baked-tasting sort of way.
-Order the "Japanese Delight" Meal (available to all Intercontinental destinations on departure from Amsterdam). The salmon sashimi, the hibachi chicken, the steamed rice, and cold soba noodles - all delicious and all worth the 15 euros!!!!
-The wine: take the white! It's Terra Andina Chilean Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc Blend... and it's delicious! (I typically am not the fondest with Chardonnay ANYTHING, but this was quite nice!
-The seat: Extra Recline, Extra Room... what more can you ask for?
-IFE very responsive and also enough to keep me well-entertained.
-Cabin Crew: Amazing! I said this before and I will say this again - AMAZING!!!!!!
KL 77Es are much better than their 77Ws as they are 9-abreast in Y rather than the cramped 10-abreast of their 77Ws.

That appears to be the case on the 77E seat map in the KLM website also.

KLM long haul is a really good experience, as others have mentioned above the crew is all smiles and fantastic on board, often making small talk with passengers.
Meal service is much more extensive than US carriers, with drink and nuts shortly after take off, followed by a warm towel service before dinner or lunch. During the flight there is a lot of snacks and drinks laid out in the galley for you to take.
Flight attendants will be walking around with drinks and ice cream during the flight and sometimes even a snack, and there is another warm towel service before the pre arrival meal.
In terms of IFE all the latest movies and television shows are offered, and even classics. Check on KLM's website to see what movies or show can be expected on your flight.
There is duty free on board, you can even buy KLM models online and it will be delivered to your seat! I bought all of them for my personal collection and it did lead to some interesting conversations with the FA
Unless there are some minor changes in the meal service, this is pretty much what you can expect on KLM
Enjoy your flight! KLM is always a pleasure to fly, whenever I am onboard its like a home away from home!

It's embarrassing, but I have yet to complete my Trip Report from LHR to HKG (via AMS) from October. Luckily, I have great notes, and those notes say categorically that KL was awesome. On both legs, the service was wonderful. I have also flown them one leg from DXB back to LHR, and it was also great.

I could ask for no bloody IFE box blocking most of my underseat space. This was a window seat on a KL A330 fairly recently.
I personally haven't found KL service to be all that special, at least in the A330's in Y. I can't speak to the 77E setup. The FA's are extremely pleasant, the food is decent enough; I don't agree that it's "much more extensive than US carriers" though. I don't have an opinion on the IFE (I don't generally use it), nor the duty free (seemed pretty much like any others to me). I loathe any airplane fitted out with the underseat blockage and for that reason alone I've been avoiding KL's A330's when I can.

I don't recall that they looked like that, exactly. I'm pretty sure that the last KL 330 I was in had an underseat box that was probably just as large, but instead of taking up a slice of the underseat side, it was set back under the seat. So, instead of making the underseat space narrower, it made it shallower; there was only about 10 inches under there, front-to-back, not enough for my laptop bag. (and not enough width to fit it sideways, either.)
