Just saw on CNN:

Interesting. 757s have been pretty-reliable in recent years, even though aging.

EDIT: Now appears to be FOD from blown tire. Engine functioning. Precautionary landing. BA would probably have just continued to Europe because to do so would be "perfectly safe", no?

Saw it on the climb-out while driving on I-78. It looked just like Thompson Cook in that famous you-tube movie, made me immediately think it was a bird strike

A mile of runway takes you to the world. A mile of highway takes you a mile.

Apparently they are down safely as airport is back to normal operations; liveatc archive ends when they're on a 4-mile final.

Landed without incident, taxied to the gate under its own power.

Dear God, the televised news report on CNN made it sound like the left engine had a uncontained failure. Glad it wasn't.

Yeah, another slow news day. CNN in particular seems to have a habit of making sensational Breaking News out of anything, like vapid celebrity antics. In time I'm sure they'll end up reporting on firefighters rescuing cats out of trees.

I bet the newsroom must've secretly been disappointed at the happy ending. Reminds of that silly Saturday Night Live skit on Jetblue 292.

Sad but true, CNN's ratings suck except in case of emergencies, so why not hype one every chance they get?

You mean like NBC's local affiliate in Dallas? True and sadder.

I've got $h*t to do

If you read the report witness reported flames coming out of the engine. A little more than just ingesting a bit of debris.
