UA 161/162: JFK/LAX (2-class/PMCO 752)

I'm curious to know when United pulled the 3-class, PMUA 752 from UA161/162 (JFK/LAX/JFK). I realize this is merely in line with Mr. Smisek's plan to retrofit 3-class 752s into PMCO 2-class airplanes. Having flown UA 162 as recently as last month (still 3-class), I'm inclined to think this equipment change started in September (?)

Does anyone know the rate at which PMUA 752s will be pulled from PS flying for conversion?

161/162 is an sCO 752. It was never flown with an sUA 752. In fact up until it started flying this route, 161/162 was flown on different routes ie SFO - PIT with 737 aircraft. The sCO 752 was recently introduced on the LAX - JFK - LAX pairing. Quite a few PS 752s are being withdrawn from the fleet, and the first sUA 752 to be reconfigured is N596UA tail #5996. Reconfiguration is supposed to start in November.

What do you mean "quite a few" ps aircraft are being pulled off? Wouldn't UA kept flying the 3 class ps 757's and only replaced them as a new ps in 2 configuration enter? Has their been an explanation for this? Even during the 767 days there were a First Class and business (with seats from that era) which were better than what was offered on other non-transcon of today.

Does Smisek really not care about a quality product? He can't be that stupid that it will hurt revenue in the long term.

Is UA at all concerned about AA A321 transcon coming in a couple years?

Interesting, I had no idea they were putting sCO planes onto the JFK routes. Also, when do we think we will see the PS 739s coming into service?
