And the hits keep on coming. Was on AA87 LHR-ORD, a 767-300 (Don't have the tail #.) Shortly after takeoff, the captain come over the PA and announced there was a failure to retract one of the leading edge slats after takeoff, so we would circle, dump fuel for a while, then return to LHR. Landed about 30 minutes later a bit fast and heavy, but a really good landing with some serious thrust reverse. (Will try to post vid later.)
The platinum desk was extremely helpful and I a booked to my final destination of XNA through DFW due to depart at 3 p.m. This is just insult to injury for AA, but the one thing I want to be very clear about is how wonderful the crew of 87 was in keeping us informed, the Platinum desk operator for efficiently getting me re-booked, and the Admirals Club staff for being in such good humor and helpful given the circumstances. There's been so much written and said lately of AA's woes, but the way today's unrelated situation was handled is a reminder to not paint with too broad a brush, as there are plenty of dedicated, customer-service oriented people to be found at AA.
Now for flight 79 to DFW. Long day started in Delhi, I see sleep in my future.
I have flown AA twice since the slow-down started, RNO-ATL-RNO and SFO-GRU-RNO, and have not yet been caught in the mess. I was caught in a weather delay and must say that the EXP desk and the other employees I encountered acted in their usual professional manner. I see all the reports of delays and am naturally concerned, but still feel I am better cared for on AA than on other carriers.

The really sad part is that all those flight attendants on the flights that are getting cancelled don't get paid (they don't have cancellation pay) so the understaffing of pilots by the company and/or the perceived work action is hurting their own coworkers as well as their customers.

Yep, I was under you on the ground at Cobham as you went round the Ockham beacon for about 15 minutes pumping that stuff out. Looked pretty amazing.
