Short and simple. This is a very short route to fly between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, but who should I fly? With the numerous airlines flying the route I don't know who to fly. should I just stick to cheapest and the one that doesn't have extortionate ancillary fees?
I was thinking maybe take the bus and enjoy a nasi lemak on the bus.... and well the train is NOT an option.

Actually, the train is an option: the sleeper between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore is quite comfortable. However, for better connections, I'd recommend alighting at Johor Bahru then switching to a Singapore-bound bus, since the train station in Woodlands is not well-connected: you have to take a bus to go to the MRT.
Anyway, the only airlines serving this route are MH, SQ, MI, 3K, TR and AK out of KUL. SQ and MH are obviously going to be the most expensive. If you want to fly out of KUL proper (as opposed to the LCCT), fly 3K. I was told to stay away from TR, since they're not good at handling IRROPS.
You can also fly FY (Firefly), an MH subsidiary, out of SZB (Subang, the old Kuala Lumpur airport). However, FY uses props on this route: they fly SZB-SIN with ATR-72s.

There is only ONE way to get from KL to SG- it is complicated, but a MUST do - believe me!
https://www.berjaya-air.com/ is flying between SZB to SIN via TOD(Tioman). Unfortunately, you have to buy two one-tickets tickets. Transfer is no problem at all, as the "airport" is only a small shelter- but you should drop an email to Berjaya Air HQ well in advance- to request transfer assistance!
The flight is always operated by a DASH 7 (!!) and the approach into TOD is very thrilling (one of the most dangerous airports in the world!). A unique flight- on an unique a/c, enjoy!

Not the most dangerous approach - just a bit "unusual".

I did it as well ! Even without notifying Berjaya Air´s HQ it was no problem - despite just a 30 mins transfer.
I just let the check-in agent at SZB know that I am continuing to SIN and let her send a message to TOD station.
It´s the same aircraft that flies SZB-TOD that continues TOD-SIN.
I was "fortunate" to fly to XSP (Singapore-Seletar) then but Berjaya has moved to SIN a while ago.
Berjaya´s DH7 are certainly showing their age now but are in reasonable condition.
And with this routing you are guaranteed a DH7 as there´s no equipment change possible (short runway and difficult approach at TOD)
Berjaya has also ATR72-500´s but they cannot fly to/from TOD.
Just a reminder: be sure you check the free baggage allowance for flights into/out of TOD (10kgs IIRC - anything above will be charged extra ...)
