Aer Lingus Nonrev Help Please

Hello all

Curious if anyone has access to Aer Lingus loads that can help me out with the following flights (will be flying nonrev and want to make sure I will get on).

EI149 LHR-DUB on 14 October
EI105 DUB-JFK on 14 October

I'm hoping 2.5 hours is enough time to connect in DUB...does anyone know if EI will be able to check my bag through or if I will have to claim it considering I will be clearing both Irish and US Customs in Dublin?

I can't help with the loads, but 2.5 hours is loads of time to connect in DUB and they will check your bags the whole way through. From my experience the US preclearance takes less than 20 mins and the Irish passport security checks around the same, if not less.

Thanks very much, this was my primary concern about the whole thing. At least I'll get two passport stamps in the same airport

As an EI crew member I can tell you they will 100% not check your bags through. EI never checks bags through for non revs (I know I hate this). Also if you have only carryon bags you will also need to exit and go to the main ticket counter to get a seat for your second flight. The transfer desk won't handle any type non revs and they can not print a boarding pass for your second flight when you originally check in. (another thing I hate about EI)

After you exit customs in Dublin go to the ticket counter, don't wait in the line. The very last counter has a sign that says Standby. Go up to this desk and tell they you are a non rev. If the flight has open seats they will clear you right away and take your bags. If the flight is full or near full they will tell you to come back to the ticket counter 1hr prior to the flight when they close it. They will not give you a boarding pass to go to the gate unless you are getting a seat.

As far as the connection time. I would allow more time closer to 3 or 4 hours because LHR has so many delays. The plane which does a DUB-LHR-DUB turn could be delayed. In my experience more of my LHR flights have been delayed than on time (usually a short delay). Also the LHR flights have a lot of business travel and last minute ticketed passengers so they tend to go out pretty full. I don't know if you are a flight attendant or not but here's a hint if your flight is full and you are a other airline flight attendant ask the customer service agent to check if you can ride in a Jim seat. They will have to get the captains approval but I have seen captains approve it.

As a last resort if you get stuck in LON, EI is flexible with the ticketing you can use your LHR non rev ticket at any of the london airports. I usually have luck at LGW and if the DUB-JFK flights look terrible you can transit via SNN instead.

CBP in Dublin is a breeze and you will be through it in no time.

You could also try non-reving on LHR-SNN-JFK - queues for security, GNIB, CBP etc. would likely be shorter at Shannon so you would have plenty of time to come out to the check-in area and get your seats for the onward flight.

For what it's worth I had no trouble at all in DUB....had about 45 minutes to spare even after clearing Customs (and security) twice. Thanks again to everyone for the assistance.
