Any idea why JetBlue 362 PBI - LGA stopped in JFK today? I'm on board B6/359 heading to BUR and heard the announcement over PA about boarding B6/362 to LGA (apparently, a 5-minute flight).

Quoting RamblinMan (Reply 3): LGA is backed up so they land at another hideously congested airport? Wouldn't going to ISP have made more sense?
B6 doesn't fly to ISP so there is no staff, GSE, gate, etc. there. It can be a diversion airport, but you might as well go to a place that is manned by the airline if you're going to divert close to the destination. If, for example, there is an MX issue on the aircraft, or the crew times out, or situations like that arise when landing in an airport like ISP, now the plane is stuck in ISP until it can be fixed or replaced.
