Hi All
By Dec 12th, I will complete 9 round trips during this calendar year on SQ flying the India - Indonesia sector. Each round trip is close to 6K miles, and I will cross 50,000 miles.
But, from looking at my profile information, and from reading SQ's website, I am not sure whether this will make me "Gold" this year or not. I am being told that I will "re-qualify" for Elite Silver, which is a bit puzzling since I achieved that status during my 5th trip already. Am I missing something? Can someone clarify? I lived in the US for a long time, where these things seemed less confusing.

Not sure but, your calender year of flying may not match your calender year of membership, ie not starting at the same time, some flights might not count towards your credit within that 12 months. So many flyer programes vary.

I already earned Silver status in Aug 2012, which is valid until Aug 2013.

I can only only offer some help based on what I know from my QF FF membership, so I hope this is of some help.
I'm currently a Silver member, and my membership runs from 1st August to 31st July each year. Within that period I must obtain 250 "Status Credits" to maintain (or re-qualify) for my Silver membership, otherwise I drop down to Bronze. I have to continue to achieve 250 Status Credits every year (until I get to something silly like 7000 then I'm a Life Time Silver member).
Status Credits are earned based on the length of flight. I don't know how SQ determine it, but I would imagine it's something along the same lines. For example LHR-SYD is 60 status credits, where as MEL-SYD is 10. But I can also earn these credits on other One World flights too, so if I fly BA to AMS, I get 20 for a return trip. These all up to my Status Credit total Aug-Jul each year. If I want to become a Gold member (which I do incidentally!), then I must earn 700 status credits between Aug-Jul in the first year and then to re-qualify the following year (and every year thereafter) I need only 600, otherwise I drop back to being a Silver member again. The class you travel also determines the number of credits you get you get the basic in Discount Economy LHR-SYD 60 or 360 Credits First Class. There's more rules than this but this is the basic principal.
Hopefully that may be some help, but as "readytotaxi" has already said it almost certainly is to do with your membership year and when you first enrolled.

According to their website, it states that you must complete 50,000 miles within your Elite Silver year. You qualified for ES in August 2012. You must complete 50,000 miles from August 2012 thru 2013.
From their website:
KrisFlyer Elite Gold status will be yours when you achieve 50,000 Elite miles in any class of service on Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, Virgin Atlantic or any Star Alliance airline during your Elite Silver membership year.
So you achieve Silver and now you must achieve an additional 50,000 miles.

When put in perspective, 75,000 miles within technically two years. It could take someone a full year to obtain 25,000 miles. Then you have an additional 50,000 miles to achieve gold within the following year. Top tier elite status at most airlines can be up to 125,000 miles within one calendar year.
75,000 miles within two years or 125,000 miles within one calendar year. IDK, personally I'd take former.

Silver is 25,000 miles within a membership year, and Gold is 50,000. That much you are correct on. And it is 50,000 total, i.e. 25,000 more than Silver not 50,000 more than Silver.
I think that where you are getting confused is that SQ do not count miles by calendar year, but rather from the month you joined. Can you remember which month you enrolled in KrisFlyer? Let's hypothetically say that it was August. To earn Gold, you would need to fly 50,000 miles between September 1 and August 31.
While I realise that this is frustrating, having earned 50,000 miles in 2012 is meaningless unless you enrolled in December.
