Just about everything leaving FRA for N. America today seems to be delayed big time and a fee cancelations. Anyone know what's going on there other than some snow? DL418 is still showing to be in FRA 7 hours after it was supposed to take off, UA917 is cancelled all-together.

Huge number of cancellations and delays at FRA due to snow.
Snow is a case today in all Germany, CPH and around, but it looks FRA got the biggest hit.

Snow and visibility problems.

Just checking a few flights:

LH 418 was canceled, and LH 1106 (FRA-SZG) was an hour and a half late. CGN is also having trouble, and I would imagine DUS likely too.

...and I guess MUC is also about to get hit?

Ooh yikes, what a mess. Yeah, quite a few cancelation.. looks like all of UA and LH flights to IAD were cancelled, MUC seems to be okay though because both UA and LH flights to N. America left on time. SQ A380 to JFK managed to head out though albeit quite late. Fun in FRA it seems, I am glad I was there last Sunday and not today.

A friend of mine works at FRA and posted this picture on his Facebook page earlier today:

It's been a mix of snow, freezing rain and strong, gusty winds all day. A complete mess!

Public service announcement: "It's" = "it is". To indicate posession, write "its." Looks wrong, but it's correct grammar

That''s a mess indeed. Here's to hoping weather gives FRA a break soon otherwise it'll take a while to get back to normal if it continues.

4 runways to play with, and still they're closing down. If it ain't snow, or if the wind is not out of East or West, FRA is pretty much buggered. Partly because they reserve a runway for either take-off OR landing, instead of mixing them. I was sat in FRA on late evening not long ago, and while we were at the holding point couldn't help notice there was an average of 5 minutes between each landing. But would they shoot of a departure from that runway? Noooo, better to delay everybody than be a bit creative. Sometimes ze Germans and their sticking to rules can really get on my nerves.

PS
My flight diverted into DUS today. Couple of hours on the ground, then off again to FRA. We were told an aircraft had had a "technical problem", one fellow passenger read on the internet a take-off on 18 had been abandoned. That meant both the Southern 07/25 runways were closed.

4 runways to play with ..... they could have 10, and yet I'm sure FRA ATC would find a way to make a mess of that too.

I live not far from FRA and stayed at home since friday, basically most traffic here has ended, what a wonderful silence, and nature elimantes those who did not learn the lesson that we are a tiny part of nature. Tomorrow will be better with lots of rain. Tuesday we again expect freezing rain.

My dear friend- I´m FRA ATC , and before you shout out get your facts straight.
We had two simultaneous emergencies today to deal with. One landing in Stuttgart and evacuating on the RWY, one in FRA blocking Taxiway C. The Runway 18 was closed due to snow removal and the braking action went way down. As the airport only contracted a certain number of deicings per hour- and a/c returned for a second deice- things went sour.
No parking spaces and no deicing for a considerable time, alternate closed due to crippled a/c on RWY.
Plus snow all day long.
Even if we had 10 RWY´s (utter rubish) it wouldn´t have changed much. ATC is abolutely not to blame.
That I do not flame you any more is due to the fact that you do not seem to have to much insight in the business.
To all others- today was one of those days...
Somehow FRA always seems to be taken by surprise with the sudden snowfall in Dec.....

That's the only thing I can point to. If I remember correctly, same thing happened last year. Maybe it's time for FRA to prepare better for snow in Dec going forward.

I left FRA a couple of days ago and some were predicting chaos. Seems it happened!

As an aside, I saw a "live" little mouse crawling around the gate area in Z. Must have been hungry. Cute little white furry thing that finally scared a young lady into screaming...
