Elite Flyers Ratio/Percentage

Does anyone know the ratio/percentage of elite flyers (i.e., silver/gold/platinum) one airline may typically have? If there are breakdown per status level, that would be even better. I did a quick search on this topic but didn't find any answers.

a very closely guarded secret I believe. Though I recall reading somewhere a while ago that DL had around 70 million Skymiles members and 2-3% were estimated as 'elite' level. That info could well be very out of date now. I've no idea how many of the 70M were active members or any split on the 2-3%.

When I worked at AA I always heard that elites made up 15% of the passengers and contributed 33% of the revenue.
Each particular flight manifest would show break down the type and number of elites - some flights would have none (very rare) and some could have 50-75 or more ...

For an unnamed European airlines --

Total mileage members - ~2.6mil

General member - ~2.3mil
Elite tier 1 - ~250,000
Elite tier 2 - ~60,000
Top tier - ~15,000

So in this case about 12% of members are some form of elite.

Ultimately a well proportioned program will look like a pyramid. Wide base with tons of general members, narrowing as one moves up in the elite levels till reaching the top level which will be a very small percentage of elites.

Many say AAdvantage last year rewrote its lifetime elite level earnings method as it was getting too heavy at the higher levels.
