After only reading the forum for a few years, I now have a question for the expert panel:
Following the handling (departure or arrival) of the one billionth passenger at AMS on 11 October 2011, airport director Jos Nijhuis claimed that AMS was the first airport ever to reach this milestone.
Considering that ATL consistently handles approximately 90 million passengers year by year (AMS merely touched 50 million this year) it would take them less than 12 years to achieve this, if they haven't already.
Therefore, my question: is there a ranking of cumulative passenger number handled by airports since their start of operations?

While I don't have any numbers, I think the winner in this category, by far, would be:
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
I doubt that any airport would come even near Jeddah's number.

EDIT: Ok it looks like I was wrong. Even though millions of passengers use JED for religious pilgrimage, the passenger and movement numbers are higher for large international hubs like AMS, LHR, FRA, ORD, ATL
