I did not know that Jacksonville, Florida in 1964 was called Thomas Cole Imeson Airport with major airline modern jets. Before moved to Jacksonville In'tl in new location.

Can you give me some name of city used to?

I would say:

Kansas City Municipal moved to MCI Kansas City Int'l.

Denver Stapleton to Denver Intl.

Ft Myers Municipal to Ft Myers Southwest Florida Regional.

Panama City, FL Bay County airport to Panama International Airport

Austin, TX Mueller Airport to Austin Bergstrom Int'l

Any else more?

PS~ Dallas Love to Dallas/Ft Worth Int'l. (Love airport is not closed down). Not counted.

Thanks,

Q

Singapore Kallang moved to Singapore Paya Lebar 1955.
Civil aviation moved to Singapore Changi 1980, as Paya Lebar nowadays is a military airport.

The list of moved airports must be very very looooooong.

In the 1920s Langley park on the Perth foreshore had served as an airstrip, but Maylands Aerodrome served as Perth's Airport until a new airport was built in South Guildford. The Maylands site was subject to flooding in winter and lacked space for expansion. In 1938 land was selected for the new airport, known as Guildford Aerodrome, and building took place against the background of WWII, with Guyildford serving as a RAAF base. The first commercial operations were Qantas Empire Airways and Australian National Airways (ANA) starting flights in 1944.

The old Maylands Aerodrome remained as a field for general aviation until a new GA airport was opened at Jandakot in 1963. Jandakot is still in use and remains one of Australia's busiest airports. The Guildford site is now known as Perth Airport (PER) and serves as Western Australia's gateway.

How recent is recent? A few airports in the Philippines have been replaced by completely new ones:

*MNL: Nielsen Field was replaced by Nichols Field, which subsequently became Manila International Airport, in 1948. (Nielsen Field today is the Makati Central Business District, and its terminal building is now the Filipinas Heritage Library.)
*CEB: Lahug Airport was replaced by the current Mactan-Cebu International Airport in the 1960s. (The old airport is now part of the urban core of Cebu City.)
*GES: Buayan Airport was replaced by the current General Santos International Airport in 1996. (The old airport is still used as a Philippine Air Force base.)
*ILO: Mandurriao Airport was replaced by the current Iloilo International Airport in 2007. (The old airport will be redeveloped into a new central business district.)
*BCD: Bacolod City Domestic Airport was replaced by the current Bacolod-Silay International Airport in 2008. (The old airport will be redeveloped into a new central business district.)
*CGY: Lumbia Airport will be replaced by the new Laguindingan International Airport in 2013. It was supposed to be this year, but the opening date has been pushed back.

Meanwhile, there are plans to open new airports for Legazpi (LGP), Tagbilaran (TAG), Zamboanga (ZAM), Puerto Princesa (PPS) and Dumaguete (DGT) in order to cope with increased demand.

BER! Oh, wait, its not yet open. New DOH will open in a few years, and DWC will probably start getting pax traffic soon. The new PEK will open soon. As far as past Airports:
Everything already mentioned along with...
FCO almost completely replaced Ciampino.
STL Mid America tried and failed. Same with Mirabel
JFK and IAD, both a looong time ago, to replace at least international traffic to LGA and DCA.
In fact, most US Airports were either converted and expanded military fields or replacement Airports for the small local fields.
LCA to replace the decimated and abandoned NIC.
LYS
PVG for international traffic, PVG and SHA both have service. Same goes for KIX.

I think you may be missing the topic a bit. What the OP is asking about are airports that were closed and replaced by another airport. One such example is DEN. They closed Stapleton International and moved operations to Denver International Airport which replaced it (and took the DEN code).

When I was in MUC a few months ago I was on a local bus one day and noticed the Riem name as one of the next stops so got off and wandered around as I was interested in what remained of the old airport. It's now the site of a large shopping mall and various new office and apartment buildings, a big congress/convention center, and park areas and some land not yet developed.

But the old control tower is still standing all by itself adjacent to a road. It used to be part of the terminal building. Not sure why it was preserved.

And the central section of the old terminal with the lighted sign on the roof was preserved and is incorporated as part of a new office complex.

Apart from the intact control tower you would never know the site was a busy airport until 1992.

When I read the original thread title, I wouldn't consider airports built 50 to 60 years ago to be considered "in recent years". Some of the examples given are at the very beginning of the jet age.

Agreed. If not, might as well add DFW replacing GSW all the way back in 1974.

CDG did not replace LBG ... ORY did.

CDG was inaugurated in 1974 and progressively took over traffic from ORY but of course ORY is still active.

LBG is also still active but for private traffic only.
