A lot of bad luck for passengers of flight Ryanair FR5465 which departed Charleroi (aka Brussels South) to Madrid on December 28.

First the aircraft had to return while over mid France to Charleroi because of a technical issue.
As Charleroi airport is closed after 2300 the pax could not depart that night. They had to find a hotel themselves. Pax with no money were left alone.
The flight would depart the next morning at 11:00. Howver, once boarded the pilot announced the aircraft could not depart because a device was missing. The system of recording data in the cabin, which had been taken the previous night to analyze the data of the incident, had not been placed in the aircraft but was sent to Barcelona . He had to wait for his return.

I am not sure what device but I guess it is the Flight Data Monitoring. http://www.skybrary.aero/index.php/Flight_Data_Monitoring
This is used to analyze the operation of the flight.

Again to the ground, while the passengers were surprised by the gesture of attention Ryanair offered them a voucher worth 5 euros ... to buy food and drink, knowing that sandwich the cheapest cafeteria airport costs € 4 and € 2.60 a drink.

It was around 16:00 that the nightmare of the 200 passengers on the flight FR5465 was coming to an end when they were finally able to land at the airport of Barajas

nightmare of the 200 passengers

That's a good accomplishment given FR's 738s legally hold a maximum of 189.

Did the pax have to pay an issue fee.

Unfortunately, most passengers aren't aware of their rights and seemingly Ryanair will not step up to the mark unless challenged on EU laws and still then, its a uphill struggle. I had a similar issue with a delay in Riga last year and when I challenged the Ryanair agent and her failure to issue/offer food and drink vouchers etc, she laughed at me. When I pulled the EU regulation up on my phone and told other passengers to quote the same, the smile was wiped off her face. Had she dealt with it professionally, she wouldn't have had a huge queue of pax to sort out. Needless to say, I had the final laugh.

This is why, every time I do choose to fly with FR, I bring a printed copy of the passenger rights bill with me.
Too bad that it has to come so far, but since you have to print out everything for a Ryanair flight anyway, it doesn't make too much of a difference at the end of the day anyway.

Didn't FR begin charging €2 per ticket to cover their Duty of Care costs under EU law after the volcano incident grounded flights a couple of years ago? This is a classic example of where their coffers should have been opened wide to help these folks.

The balance opted for "extra legroom" and were duly loaded as freight
