Have many people here flown SYD-LAX recently with Virgin Australia or Delta? I'm trying to book flights and DL along with VA are quite competitvely priced, compared to QF and UA.
I'm going to be stuck on a plane for 14 hours, I want it to be a decent experience in Y.

I flew SYD-LAX-BNE with VA in Y in July. I was very impressed with the service. Found the meals great for Airplane food, frequent drink runs and snacks available through the night. Wide range of options available on the entertainment system "Red" aswell.
I havent flown with DL but would happily fly VA long-haul again

Both use the 777, but VA uses the -300ER and DL the 200LR. Don't know about VA's IFE, but DL has a pretty good setup. Meal service in DL's B/E cabin is quite nice, coach, I don't know about.

Do urself a favor and avoid UA since you are flying Y. DL LRs are a nice ride. VA is great as well. I would stick with those two options. I would personally choose VA if they are both the same price.

I can't comment on VA, but DL had some of the worst food I've every had on my flight from ATL-NRT and NRT-TPE over the summer. It was bad even comparing it to other airline food - totally inedible. Do you know if DL has a new interior in the 777? The hard product for DL in the refurbished 747 was very good. From what I've heard, though Virgin offers a somewhat pleasant experience.
