I'm going DTW-BOS at the end of the month:

I DON'T want to take NW, and I'm looking for suggestions.

I'm leaning towards taking US via PHL (CRJ/757, 319/CRJ). I've never been on US before. How is PHL?

Other choices I have:
CO via EWR
DL via CVG
Indepence via IAD

Look foward to your responses.
Thanks.

Dr. DTW

PHL is awful to connect in. I wouldn't recommend it.

Go Delta. CVG is much easier to navigate.

Why do CVG when it is out of the way? Do either EWR or PHL and least those two are in the right direction for you.

It's not that much out of the way. You'll save at most 10-15 minutes by going through PHL rather than CVG (which will probably be lost anyway with PHL's delays or trying to find your baggage).

Forgive me for repeating Burnsie28's question:

Why don't you want to take NW? They fly non-stop from DTW to BOS.

Do you have an issue w/NW's DC-9s or A319/320s?

My only gripe w/NW are that the Coach seats on both the 9s and baby Busses lack padding. They're okay for short trips (DTW-BOS) but can be a bit uncomfortable for a long haul.

Edited to add:

My apologies, Dr.DTW. I didn't realize that your username had DTW in it. When I first posted this, I thought you were going to DTW from BOS as opposed to the other way around. My bad.

Nonetheless, my above-questions still stand.

Why dont you fly CO through CLE? Though I suggest NW (of course), CO through CLE seems like it would be the fastest way with a connection.

The New American is arriving.

What dates??

NW is around $200 with DL at $210. DL has a early morning flight with a stop in JFK.

Why not NW?

Simple: I like "adventure.' If I have an opportunity to take two different aircraft, and to visit an airport that I've never been to, I'm going to take it.
I'm never been to EWR, PHL or CVG; nor have I ever been on a regional jet before, so, I'm exploiting this opportunity.

Much more exciting than taking a nonstop.

I don't find PHL to be that bad to connect in. Yes, you'll have to take a bus (airside) from Terminal F to Terminal B/C, but they run continuously, so it's really not a big deal. US also has the nicest terminal in BOS (at the moment), so that's something to consider.

I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

CO at EWR is very nice idea. Their new terminal is awesome to see alot of international traffic. I've flown CO into IAH, EWR, and DCA. Always was a nice flight.

I have done BOS-JFK with DL in the past (Fairchild Dornier) and I liked the plane a lot. Maybe you could do DTW-JFK-BOS with DL as Iowaman suggests.

The other thing I can think of is that you take whichever carrier other than NW that allows you to accrue mileage in your f.f. program provided the fare is decent.

By the way, does UA serve NYC-BOS non-stop (or, more accurately, did it serve NYC-BOS in winter 1995?).

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

The actual connecting isn't the problem - the problem is sitting on taxiways waiting for the active for 40 minutes for a 30 minute flight.

DTW-PVD (as an alternate to BOS) nonstop on Spirit (NK) begins 10/28/04 with a round trip fare of a little over 100 bucks...hourly bus service to BOS is about 25 bucks round trip if you're not renting a car.
