Hello,

As much as I am a plane enthusiast, I also am a bit of an anxious flier. I will be taking EK 211 from DXB to IAH on Jan 8, which reaches IAH at 3:53pm. The weather forecast is 80% rain, thunderstorms in IAH. Because the fight departs 16 hours before arrival, does the flight plan change en route if the weather at destination is bad? Or, is the flight delayed at origin to compensate for future weather at destination?

Do you mean like to divert? If the weather is bad enough, yes the flight will divert.

Honestly, I've wondered that myself. I would assume they would take off and divert if needed, but I don't really know for sure.

Yes, by "flight plan change" I meant divert. Last year I saw an Emirates plane in Austin's airport because the flight was diverted due to weather in IAH. I wondered that would have sucked for any passengers from AUS on board because they can't disembark as immigration and customs are done at IAH.

That would suck a lot. Must've been cool seeing an EK 777 at AUS though!

Update: my EK 211 flight was great. We did run into good bit of turbulence over Waco, Texas right while descending. The crew were asked to be seated as well. About 60% of the flight went with no seatbelt sign on.

Glad the flight was good! EK seems to have a superior longhaul product.
