Dear All, at approx 2320 on 20.01.13 this flew over my house. I tracked it only with my iPhone app and it was shown as BA21 LHR-HKG with a 772. The BA25 to HKG had just left before as shown. Two strange things : 1) It was headed west and 2) HKG is not operated with 772 and there is no such flight of BA21. Aircraft shown is G-YMMH. So my question is, can anyone tell if the information shown below correct ? What ops was G-YMMH operating on 20th ?

It's BAW21G not BAW21, it's a westbound transatlantic. Look under www.lhr.lgw.co.uk, movements under "more" for any day. Then search for the callsign which will then give you the flight number.
Callsign similarity means some don't use the flight number as the callsign.

That app often gives some wrong information. I was looking at it last night and found a KLM B772 allegedly on a route from LHR-AMS however it was just coming up for the South Africa - Zimbabwe border. It was obviously the JNB-AMS flight. Probably a similar sort of error that you experienced.

BA21/22 is a so-called 'peak-time' flight, operating only in certain times of the year when demand for LHR-HKG-LHR is high.
Apparently this flight is added to fill the gap of the QF HKG-LHR flight after the JV between BA and QF broke.
I do wonder why the flight is still here though, I thought It is not necessary for BA to run this flight anymore after they start operating both HKG flights on 744s...

The app is called : Plane Finder. I really enjoy it although as we have found out not always correct. But I would say as a long time viewer of this app mistakes are rare.

A somewhat similar question regarding BA. Why is it that LGW-TPA-LGW, BA 2167/2166 per BA's website is referred to as "Speedbird Twenty One Tango" by ATC? I don't get it...
