An Air Transat 'Club Class' Report By A Student

It is still worth while, especially considering you also get a Priority queue at the security checkpoint. though it is only available in Montreal and Vancouver.

I am glad to see that my experience is was not an adoration but the norm. Why do we as passengers have to put up with being treated like chattel and not given any respect what so ever? The way he described his experience is similar to what I have found in the last few years with most airlines.

Yep. I got all confused by the left turn, the perks and the extra alcoohol.

Using Air Transat as an example, (where as you correctly state it could be any airline), it is because that is not important to 99% of the traveling public.

Transat owes its entire existence to the fact that what people want most is a cheap seat. Period. The two times I have flown with them were very uncomfortable, and respect of course was missing, but I got what I paid for ... a cheap seat from A to B. And yes, as I was with non-airline friends, cost was the prime factor.

Just about every airline that has tried otherwise, usually offering an all F or J aircraft, has failed. As much as that is what we would like, it is not something for which we would pay extra.

People often point to the success of Porter Airlines. An airline that appears to offer a higher level of service. However, as they are a private company "success" is hard to judge, as numbers are not published, other than their declining load factors. And ... I suggest they would be "successful" regardless of their on-board product, as they offer the unique advantage of Toronto City Centre Airport.

In fairness, I do not think TS are as bad as all that. Some of the things he said certainly made me smile, like the overhead bins, but with the ever increasing size of the carry on rollerbags allowed, this is hardly limited to TS when a flight is full. The other issue this high density seating creates of course is long lines to go take a leak... I also feel the luggage allowance is more than ample for 2 weeks vacation, we are usually a good 8-10 kgs under. The food isnt great, but not terrible either and no different than many airlines incl AC in Y. One would not expect complimentary wine with dinner for the price paid, but you get it.

I have also never had a punctuallity issue, though on my last flight they moved it forward 3 hours (making for a much earlier arrival at the airport than desired) and an extra stop in MAN so arrival in YVR was the same, which pissed me off as there were two flights that day and I specifically chose the one I did for timing.

This bit is rather over dramatic. I have zero safety concerns with TS and I dont think he would really know if RR Trent's sound different on a 330 of any other airline, including AC. He would probaly crap himself to hear and feel the vibration of a GE90 spool up.

The 310 is very uncomfortable. I have been lucky with the 332 in getting the ex MX and TCX birds on all rotations so could have experienced worse, but the seats are very narrow, particularly for those of us with bigger butts than we should have... but I have no issue with the TS crews and lack of respect, certainly no worse (if not friendlier) than many AC staff (though some of the best service I have ever received has been from AC in fairness). On my last flight, they did seem very tired and occasionally jabbered to each other in French in the aisle while serving (on a YVR - UK flight) which was a bit rude, but when they spoke in English to me, that sweet accent more than made up for it...  

As you say, you get what you pay for and to save $900 vs AC or BA x2 is money I could spend (drink...) while on vacation and as many dont have money to burn these days, thats why TS are always full.

You get what you pay for to be frank.
TS offer a 23kg baggage allowance which to be honest is on par with everyone else and yes whilst I agree the seats are a little cramped when you consider their fares are often half of what AC charge I can justify it.
This article to me is just another rant from someone who expected 5 star service at 2 star prices and when they don't get what they want they write this sort of article.

I flew TS last summer and based on what I have read from some members here and elsewhere I really expected the worse. In all honesty with you I found them to be just as comfortable as other airlines and in some places better (i.e the food was actually edible for once).
Infact, I happily booked to go back to Canada with them again this year. I would love to take Air Canada, but the flight prices they were offering ran at over £800 and BA was similar too. I cannot justify an extra £300 for a slightly wider seat.

As for any safety concerns with TS, well I just feel such concerns are unfounded.
