Interesting: DL MQM's Reduced On Partners

Whilst booking many European and African flights for this month, I noticed on the Delta SkyMiles site that beginning March 1, 2013, many classes (even Business Class) of service will earn fewer and fewer MQM's.

http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_...-miles-with-partners/airlines.html

In each scenario even with its SkyTeam partners, most carriers will see a reduction...in some cases from earning 150% to only 75% of MQM's.

Is this something that has been announced and I may have missed this. In each airline, DL lists a comparison of their DL coded flights. Here are some examples:

SU:

KE:

KQ:

VN:

Yet interestingly, AZ, AF, KL and AM will see an increase!!!

Does this mean DL does not value its partners equally?

Delta wants its passengers to fly on Delta metal or that of their JV partners or on airlines where they've a direct investment. An incentive via SkyMiles is certainly one way of accomplishing that goal. UA does about the same.

Yes, UA does this to a degree, but not nearly to the same degree as DL is implementing.
UA has always had a preference to flying UA. That was inherent in the Million Miler program where it is BIS based not earned base, ie partners never qualified. (Now Copa is the lone exception, but we can argue if they are really a partner or a fake subsidiary of UA.)

I think this will be interesting to see what the other majors do in response to DL.

As I have mentioned both here and on FlyerTalk, tell that to DL's Asian Skymiles members. With no JV here in this part of the world, we're effectively constrained to earning 100% MQMs only on flights to NRT, or on long-haul operated by DL/AF/AZ/KL/AM. Talk about loyalty.

As far as I can see in cheap coach classes on European Carriers (AF/KL/AZ/OK...) it's still 100%. I believe this is mostly a bad thing for premium class passengers?
