AA states the color of this new livey is suppose to remind us of the polished look. Yet not all silver liveries ar the same. The new AA livery does not look as metallic as the Jetstar silver livery paint. Even Aeroflots look more metallic than AAs.
Waiting to see the AA livery in person, but in pictures, it does not look metallic in comparison to other silver liveries. It reminds me of NWAs that used to fade so easily.

I personally have disliked these new age silver paint scheme's since they started. NW, Virgin etc. Nothing is going to look as good as bare medal, so why even try to mimic it. I know this is not true if money and airplane economics are not a factor.

I have to confess I was always a fan of the "old" AA livery, and I still like it, but twice this week I've looked up from my desk and looked out the window and seen an American 777 in the new colours landing at LHR and it's growing on me actually. I'm not sure the font is quite right as the window seem to make the "American" word seen a bit bullet ridden for the want of a better expression but it does stand out.

People seem to like various shades of silver/gray metallic, at least based on the huge number of cars in those colors these days. In Europe it seems like 3 out every 4 cars on the road is some variation of silver/gray metallic. Can't think of anything more drab and boring.

I agree, but I noticed in Germany most cars are dark grey/black or blue. But I used to have a silver car......it never showed the dirt as much as other colours do, that's why I think it's popular. Dark cars show the scratches and chips more too.
Sorry to get off topic!
I do like the polished metal AA livery, perhaps because it's a nostagic throw back to the 1930s when most planes weren't painted much, and there tended to be more bare metal polished or otherwise.
