Looks Like Global Entry Is Best Bet For IAH Pax

Chronicle today is reporting that IAH Immigration wait times are past the 30 minute processing threshold and this past weekend hovered at 90 minutes based on 11,000 pax moving through customs on Sunday. HAS is concerned that the sequester will continue to dog the Customs / Immigration lines all summer long if the budget cuts remain in effect as they expect the daily que to be between 15,000 to 17,000. I've got two trips planned this year to Europe out of IAH and I think the only way around these expected delays is to sign up for Global Entry. Who has done so, so far and how long did it take?

I signed up last fall. Mostly did it for PreCheck access. Easy to do on line. The preliminary approval was swift. Only a couple of weeks. The you have to go to a registration site and do an "interview." I have heard from some people that the interview scheduling can take a while. I had to wait about a month for a slot. Basically they confirm what you have already put on your application and take you picture. As soon as that is done you are good to go. Recently flew back from Toronto and used Global Entry kiosk to preclear there. Was fantastic!!! Definitely worth the price and effort. Go for it.

It is definitely worth it. I used it twice last year at IAH and it was quick and easy. The only wait was for my luggage at the carousel and since I had priority tags, it was among the first out on the belt. Some credit cards actually offer to credit you the cost of the application fee. My Platinum AMEX and my Chase United Presidential Plus card both comp the fee.

The interview was quick and easy. I actually didn't make an appointment. When I arrived at Newark, after I cleared customs and Immigration in Terminal B, I went to the office that conducts the interviews and asked if I could do it-they were just starting with thee people and they had room for a fourth. They had us watch a movie for 5 minutes, then they took my picture, fingerprints and scanned my retina and I was out the door in 10 minutes.

I was finally able to use it last week to go through the TSA Pre-Check lane in EWR terminal C when I flew EWR-TPA. It was great not having to take off my shoes and belt or have to submit to a body scan!

Signore e signori-benvenuti a bordo questo volo per l'Italia!

It has been for the last couple of years, not only IAH but any airport that has it available for international arrivals.
