From February, Star Alliance stopped offering a Circle North Asia fare and now only offers a Round the World or Circle Pacific fare. The North Asia fare was valid for 6 months, but now, it has been replaced by a 3 month Asia Airpass in combination with a separate international ticket to Asia. This airpass has two mileage levels and books a discount economy fare which might accrue limited or no mileage according to your particular mileage program.
A travel agent quoted the following booking classes:
TG W (no mileage on international sectors), SQ K, OZ M, NH M, UA V
Price for lower level mileage airpass was around US$2000.

I bought this because it suited my travel plans, but think it is expensive despite the convenience. Certainly the cost for mileage ratio is poor.

Any opinions about using airpasses?
