On the days (in August) that I have just checked, it is scheduled to be operated by a 744. LH's 748 is very strongly aimed at business class traffic, of which there is more on other routes than MIA, so I expect that it'll be a while before we might see that aircraft on that route - if we will ever see it, that is.

Yeah I see your point. On another forum I saw some posts where people mentioned that MIA will be for sure 747-8 this summer, even before Chicago will get it's first 747-8. It would be nice to have a 747-8 in the summer and then the A380 in the winter in MIA.
Also, 747-8 to Hong Kong is flying this summer but, as of now, for dates in December it shows as 744. Would be interesting to know whether that will change for the winter schedule or not.

748 should be on the route by June 1. As one of Lufthansa's top performing stations, there is no lack of business or first class traffic. It's actually one of the highest demand stations for LH First, per below.

Quoting aloges (Reply 4): Interesting, I was under the impression that MIA generated much more leisure traffic than premium... not too unlike MCO in that regard.
If that was the case the A380 probably would not have been sent to MIA fairly quickly. Sending the 748 to MIA makes sense if the flight can support an A380 half the year the capacity is there for a 748 the other half. MIA is a good station for LH, SIWSS recently increased capacity on MIA-ZRH too adding a few more flights a week.

I am in Orlando but I wouldn't mind driving down to Miami to catch the 747- 8, especially in LH new business class but checking the prices right now for summer it is still a lot cheaper flying out of MCO instead. Seems like there is plenty of premium demand out of MIA after all. Hopefully, Orlando will get the A380 or 747-8 one day (I know, I am dreaming)!
