I was wondering if anyone knows if Lufthansa is sending the 747-8 to Miami this summer (2013)? Also do you guys know if the 747-8 will be send to Hong Kong in the winter 2013/2014?

Thanks!

Lufthansa 747-8 To Miami In August?

On the days (in August) that I have just checked, it is scheduled to be operated by a 744. LH's 748 is very strongly aimed at business class traffic, of which there is more on other routes than MIA, so I expect that it'll be a while before we might see that aircraft on that route - if we will ever see it, that is.

Yeah I see your point. On another forum I saw some posts where people mentioned that MIA will be for sure 747-8 this summer, even before Chicago will get it's first 747-8. It would be nice to have a 747-8 in the summer and then the A380 in the winter in MIA.

Also, 747-8 to Hong Kong is flying this summer but, as of now, for dates in December it shows as 744. Would be interesting to know whether that will change for the winter schedule or not.

748 should be on the route by June 1. As one of Lufthansa's top performing stations, there is no lack of business or first class traffic. It's actually one of the highest demand stations for LH First, per below.

Interesting, I was under the impression that MIA generated much more leisure traffic than premium... not too unlike MCO in that regard.

If that was the case the A380 probably would not have been sent to MIA fairly quickly. Sending the 748 to MIA makes sense if the flight can support an A380 half the year the capacity is there for a 748 the other half. MIA is a good station for LH, SIWSS recently increased capacity on MIA-ZRH too adding a few more flights a week.

I was going by the seat capacities stated on seatguru, which showed 124 C-class seats on the 748 versus 98 on the A380. However, the Lufthansa website states different capacities:

A380: F 8, C 98, Y 420
748: F 8, C 92, Y 262

With those numbers in mind, I'm no longer surprised that they're sending the 748 to MIA - 124 just seemed like too much.

I am in Orlando but I wouldn't mind driving down to Miami to catch the 747- 8, especially in LH new business class but checking the prices right now for summer it is still a lot cheaper flying out of MCO instead. Seems like there is plenty of premium demand out of MIA after all. Hopefully, Orlando will get the A380 or 747-8 one day (I know, I am dreaming)!

Not anymore. It is now to F 8 C 80 Y 298. So still pretty high C class, but even higher Y class.

I haven't heard any rumours of the 748 being sent to MIA. There were meant other airports, but MIA is done pretty well with 380 and 744.

MCO never had that much demand. Sometimes the 744 flew there, but mostly it is Airbus with lower capacity.

I keep my fingers crossed for the MIA guys to see the 748.

ORD still has some trouble regarding the 748, so maybe we see the 748 some place else.

HKG starts next week (31st of March) and I am pretty sure it will be year round as the performance of that airplane is great and the flight back from HKG to FRA is sometimes close to MTOW on the 744.

THere are many rumours out there where the 748 will fly to. And it will be checked evrey month where to send it to make the best profit. Same for the 380.
